Just Rigging & Inspections Scotland Ltd is looking for a motivated and professional LOLER Mechanical Inspector to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of projects across the entertainment, events, education, industrial, and public sectors, carrying out inspections and examinations of lifting equipment, entertainment rigging systems, height safety equipment, and other safety critical systems.

What You'll Be Doing

✔ Conducting thorough examinations and inspections in accordance with LOLER

✔ Producing inspection reports, certification records, and technical recommendations

✔ Identifying defects, wear, damage, and non compliant equipment

✔ Carrying out fault finding and condition assessments

✔ Building strong relationships with clients across the UK

✔ Supporting compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and industry best practice standards

We're Looking For

✅ Experience with lifting equipment, rigging equipment, height safety systems, or related mechanical equipment

✅ Strong mechanical aptitude and fault finding skills

✅ Excellent organisational and communication skills

✅ Full UK Driving Licence

✅ Willingness to travel throughout the UK and stay away when required

Maintenance workers were told there was no asbestos. They were wrong.

Staff at Elstree Film Studios in Hertfordshire began ripping out wall panels with claw hammers and crowbars in July 2022—only stopping when one worker spotted what he believed was asbestos insulation.

Testing confirmed his suspicions. The material contained Amosite and Crocidolite—two of the most dangerous forms of asbestos, requiring licensed removal.

The studio's asbestos surveys had failed to cover the wall surfaces in stages 7, 8, and 9. Workers were exposed because the company didn't know what was in its own building.

Elstree Film Studios Limited was fined £6,000 and ordered to pay £6,790 in costs at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on 20 November 2025.

HSE Inspector Stephen Manley said: "Those in control of buildings must ensure they have a suitable assessment in place. For intrusive work, this often requires a specific localised survey by a competent person."

A company has been fined £1.6m after a 24-year-old man was crushed to death.

Jack Phillips had been assisting the lifting operation of work platforms at South Cliff Tower in Eastbourne when they fell on top of him on 8 August 2019.

The platforms were being lifted by a lorry mounted crane when the lifting sling snapped.

Jack’s parents said: “We are no longer complete without Jack, we will never see our baby boy, the boy we nurtured and helped grow into a young man, get married, raise a family, or grow old.”

An investigation by HSE and Sussex Police found Brand Energy and Infrastructure Services UK Ltd failed to properly plan the lifting operation.

The company was sentenced at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
