artpistol Mighty Fine Art. Representing & championing the best emerging & underknown artists in Scotland.

Art Pistol is the sort of Art Gallery that the internet, and Glasgow, needs - we hear you. Giving emerging artists a real shot, and generally promoting the very best of independent UK based artists. We've been online and popping up all over Glasgow and Scotland since 2011, before settling in the beautiful cobbled Cresswell Lane in Glasgow's welcoming West End. We also like to turn walls and windows into art as we create unique public art, street art, murals and artistic window graphics.

Shanshan Jiang’s first solo exhibition After Water, Before Form opens in the gallery this Saturday evening.

In this exhibition, Shanshan brings ink painting out of the studio and into direct contact with streams, humidity, sediment, gravity and time. Paper is no longer merely a surface that carries an image, and ink is no longer a material entirely controlled by the artist’s hand. Placed within watery environments, they are transformed through current, absorption, diffusion, sedimentation and chance. The image emerges through negotiation: between the movement of water, the responsiveness of paper, the behaviour of ink, and the changing conditions of the environment.

We hope you can join us in the gallery on Saturday 12th September for the opening night, which includes a talk from the artist between 6-7pm

Where: 11 James Morrison Street, Glasgow, G1 5PE.
When: Saturday 12th September from 6 to 9pm.

Shanshan Jiang’s brand new show After Water, Before Form opens in the gallery this Septemer. The creation of this work began with a reversal. Rather than asking how an artist represents water, the exhibition asks how water responds to, interrupts, and rewrites the act of painting. In this work, water is not a passive subject to be depicted, but a force that touches paper, drags ink, dissolves edges, and leaves behind evidence of its own movement. You can read all about Shanshan’s work and the exhibition here.

We hope you can join us in the gallery on Saturday 12th September for the opening night, which includes a talk from the artist between 6-7pm.

✨ BREAKOUTS Spotlight ✨

Edinburgh based, Dorset born artist Flossie Haskins is our final featured artist from this year’s exhibition. Her practice centres on illustration, working primarily with ink on paper. Flossie draws inspiration from fashion runways and the pages of Vogue, capturing the elegance, character, and theatricality of contemporary fashion.

“My art practice combines my love for fashion illustration and the magazine with the experience of growing up amongst women, as well as my writing about the city of Florence. I explore the connection and similarities between the idealised pedestaled sculptures in Florence and the often contrived editorial fashion shoots. I work as an illustrator and printmaker on paper, which gives the work a sense of transience and looseness. Having studied the movement of the human body, I subsequently try to convey that movement with ink on paper, working quickly and deliberately. I am concerned with the use of colour, allowing each palette to tell a different story in each work”.

Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s artists and made BREAKOUTS such a success! Now to see what happens next
