I am headed to Ethnofonik to join 18 fellow musicians from around the globe to develop as a folk music educator and mentor. we come from a wide range of musical traditions, and countries! What we have in common is we are folk musicians who work with youth, and are passionate about the potential of intercultural appreciation and collaboration through learning one another's music 💫

I am grateful that my experiences teaching and learning fiddle, including with Sistema in Scotland and with KCFA in the Northwest Territories, have led me to this gathering to support my continued growth as a music educator & fiddle instructor. 🎻 And to all the sponsors of this training, Jeunesse Musicale International and many more.

I look forward to the learning, growth, and tune exchanges with my fellow Ethnofonikers, and the youth we will get to work with 🤗

Over the past month I’ve been running a fundraiser to support my journey to the Wombs of the World Summit in Berlin this October — a rare gathering where I’ll be learning from Indigenous midwives from around the globe.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of this community, I’ve already raised a big portion of what I need for travel. 🙏 I’m feeling deeply supported, grateful, and full of glee.

I am officially in the final fundraising push — and I’d love for you to join me at the concert on Thursday, Oct 3 at The Mousetrap. 🎶✨ as part of that! It’ll be an evening of original music, Scottish tunes as well, and special guests! Ticket link is in my bio!

Natural Elements is a collection of laments, lullabies, hymns, airs and odes I have composed for rest & reflection, savour & celebration, and an exploration of what it means to be in one's element. The music is rooted in traditional forms and simultaneously reaches into ephemeral, improvisational, and textural realms. The tunes have been an antidote to unsettledness.

I have had a wonderful time discovering this music with Ellen, and it will be the very first time this music reaches anyone's ears, a true premiere this Thursday Feb 23 2023 at 8pm (AST).
