Today was so chaotic in the studio 😳 in a creative way … I am trying to finalise so many things before I head off next week to Feutre Formation France to teach ecoprint on paper … a private retreat in English and one in French for the centre de formation. So paper cutting and fabric cutting, measuring dyes and mordants and preparing samples … also opening a wonderful box of indigo dyed yarn from Thailand that Mr B brought back in his luggage 💙 Mann Craft and his wonderful association of dyers from Sakhon Nakhon Thailand sent me beautiful examples of dyed cotton for my septembre exhibition and I needed to see it even if I had no time to process it ..
two small botanically printed quilts to submit for an exhibition and still the dragon that is getting completed. My head is spinning with it all. But the completion stage is the best 🫶 it is when all is coming together and the hours of work are showing beautiful results …

With all this cut paper drying there is no place to swing a cat but it will all fall into place just before I leave because I love coming back into a clean studio…

Now about Friday 🤞

575 and counting is the age of UofGlasgow our local university and one of the oldest in the UK almost as old as our city and it was wonderful to be invited to a special ceremony yesterday to celebrate it as well as to see the special honorary doctorates given to well deserving people who make a difference in our life… as well as a barrister and a scientist I was so chuffed that a well known musician and composer (and Glasgow born and bread) Stuart Murdoch was chosen and that our own « Doctor » were present. What a great day… it took me back to my own daughter’s graduation in the same hall a bit more than 10 years ago of my own daughter who went on to do sciences at St Andrews and finally Madrid. I am so proud that she now researches bio diversity making the world a lot better 🥰 the University of Glasgow is calling us « World changeurs » we surely are even if we start by looking like Happy Potter…

And at long last it does feel quite real … the space is secured, the dye garden has been moved, we set up dates for workshops and the talks online program is coming along nice … oh and I have received some yarn already for the collaboration so you can now : BLOCK THE DATES 💙

“Shades of blue, the many lives of Indigo” will open in The Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch on 26th of November for 5 weeks and I am so excited about it. A lot of Indigo knowledge will be shared around during that time. So many have come forward so far that I feel overwhelmed with joy.

I have set up an information page on my website about it. https://thelansdownehouseofstencils.com/2026/06/16/shades-of-blue-plants-and-pigments-of-indigo/ It will soon list all the events associated with it. The exhibition. Will be FOC and my work is not supported by grants but I feel so blessed the museum will be hosting it. I will be making small charges for the talks and workshops to support the costs of bringing speakers and visitors togethers.

There is still an opportunity if you are an Indigo dyer to take part in the yarn collaboration check on the page for information or message me your email address and I will send you a link.

But now back to printing the dragon 💙 Artist work is never done …

Ps the dyer on the photo is WORN Eco Creations from Chiangmai who dyed some of the cotton yarn for the exhibition last March. He will be a speaker.

And just like that 3 of the 5 pieces are printed using the soya lime paste and my huge ferrous vat. This experiment has been going on for a while now and it is good to see it getting there… for this project I have been crossing many bridges as I wanted to use an existing stencil I cut more than 25 years ago and some Scottish thick linen I rescued from the Scottish Linen Factory when they closed down a few years ago. I am aiming for a rough look for this and the print will be complimented by some appliqué and some stitching. I have not focused in getting a uniform blue more a number of dips and the pieces will be the shade the vat allows according to its level of reduction and the pigment left in it…

This work will go into my “Shades of blue” exhibition opening on the 26th of September in The Auld Kirk Kirkintilloch
