Shotput is a dance-theatre company based in Glasgow. Shotput creates dance-theatre that investigates human relationships.

We are fascinated by the darker corners of contemporary experience. Our productions are physically and visually rigourous, rooted in experimentation and collaboration. We define our work not as a collection of shows, but as a network of relationships with artists and audiences. Founded in Glasgow in 2018, Shotput is embedded in Scotland and committed to internationalism.

This weekend! *Dance Theatre Workshop with Shotput*
Join us at Dance Base - for professional dancers and actors.

Explore the creation of Shotput's Arlington with the companies Artistic Directors, Lucy Ireland and Jim Manganello.

Lucy and Jim will take you through some of the early steps they used to begin making the dance at the centre of their production Arlington. This involves inspiration from imagery, giving physical shape to text, and making an improvisatory ‘route’.

We’ll begin the workshop with a group warm-up which will lead into some long form improvisations focusing on the themes of the dance in Arlington and finally learn a short extract of the choreographic material created for the solo. We’ll explore the practical challenges of stitching together improvised material and set choreography.

SIDEKICK kicks off in just under a month.

We're happy to announce our artist pairs:

This is the first year of what we hope will be an annual residency, and Shotput is working in partnership with The Work Room for this year’s iteration of Sidekick.
