🌟 Huge congratulations to our brilliant lecturer Lucy Allan, who’s presenting her PhD research at the 2025 International Guild of Musicians in Dance Conference this weekend in Jackson, Mississippi! ✈️🇺🇸

Her talk, “The Pianist in Exile”, looks at how pianists experience “ballet culture” and makes the case for more critical thinking in the practice, learning, teaching, and research of dance accompaniment. It's an area that often flies under the radar, and we’re so proud to see Lucy highlighting its importance on the international stage.

Lucy teaches improvisation and playing for dance here at RCS. She brings a thoughtful and wide-ranging approach to her work – influenced by everything from jazz and funk to minimalism – and plays a big part in shaping our students’ experience.

🎉 Huge congratulations to our inspirational lecturer Richard Honner, winner of the Outstanding Module Award at this year’s Student Union-Led Awards! 👏

He was recognised for his work on repertoire with our Piano for Dance students – so well-deserved and a real reflection of his care and dedication. Thank you, Richard! 🎹

As one student wrote:
“Richard has shown a vast amount of enthusiasm in every session I have with him, and shared his wisdom, knowledge, and expertise as a veteran pianist and conductor with such generosity … he did not just teach a module ... but was preparing me for the next challenge, taking my musicianship a level higher than before.”
