This is one of the strangest lifeforms ever discovered.
Over 560 million years ago, during the Ediacaran Period, Fractofusus misrai lived on the deep seafloor. Its long, quilted body lay completely still, preserved exactly where it once existed.
Instead of moving or hunting, it relied on ocean currents flowing over its surfaceābringing nutrients and helping with gas exchange.
Fossil patterns suggest it spread by cloning across the seabed, while tiny offspring drifted to new locations.
This wasnāt just a strange organism. It was one of the earliest examples of complex life quietly spreading across an ancient, silent world.
