February love-filled Nocturnal Scratch Night was a true delight to the senses. Big big affection to our performers who were so open and bold with us. And the hugest thanks to our audience who brought all the trust, joy, tenderness and laughter and friendship. We are so proud of the Nocturnal space that we’ve created. It feels like an antidote to a performance world that can feel cold, or transactional or exclusionary or lonely. This collective, this community, this collage of passionate, creative, angry, beautiful, hilarious, vulnerable, entertaining, caring people is what the future of the arts look like.

Another scratch performance night is on the horizon and we want to hear from you!

❤️ FEBRUARY 10th 7.30pm GRAVITAS] ❤️

Do you have a work in progress you’d like feedback on? A performance that needs an audience? A written work that you’d like to get on its feet? A character you want to develop? A snippet of a larger piece that you’d like to promote? If the answer is yes, then our monthly scratch nights are for you! We offer 10 minute slots to share what you want- whether you’re a seasoned professional, a first time performer or a previous performer looking to put your hat back in the ring. This February, we want to embrace love in all its myriad forms ✨ Familial love, romantic love, sexual love, self love, love of nature, love between friends, community love, lack of love, searching for love - so if your work engages with love in any way, even better! But never fear everyone will be considered, so get in touch!! ✨ Payment for each act is a split of ticket sales ✨

Email us at [email protected] with a brief outline of what you want to perform, who you are, and why performing at a scratch night would be beneficial to you. (If you’re unsure what a scratch night is, come along to one of our events or see our pinned post!)

Our scratch nights are q***r-led and celebratory of everyone, they are an excellent opportunity to try out fresh work in front of a supportive, relaxed, creative, caring crowd and receive feedback to develop your practice. Work can range from storytelling to contemporary dance to drag to yodelling to Dadaist manifestos to stand up comedy to harp playing to physical collage to a dramatic staging of a WhatsApp conversation. We want it all!!

Accessibility - GRAVITAS] is accessible at ground level, but unfortunately has toilets located down 17 steps (with a handrail). If you have questions about other accessibility requirements please don’t hesitate to ask! We will try our best to accommodate within our current means!

Hey lovely friends! We just wanted to say we’re taking a wee break from our Scratch Night this month and we’ll be back in February - we’re finalising a date and then we’ll get the call out posted! Excited to see you all again! Hope you’ve all had a restful holiday break.

Make sure you’re following our dear partner venue who has lots of lovely new events starting there this month, so stay on the look out! And also as I’m here, we’ve decided to pause our monthly crafternoons at the lovely just whilst we work out a plan to run them a bit more intentionally. But obviously you can still go by and craft and crochet whenever you want! (And they’ve got an anniversary 2-4-1 Curry Pan day on Saturday 14th so go support q***r business!)
We’re hoping to put together something special for our own anniversary in May so eyes peeled 👀

There’s gonna be a most-festively-dressed audience member competition so imagine this lot but with a load of baubles and glitter!

Still a few slots to perform too, so if you or anyone you know wants to tell a story about how your dad ruined Xmas or sing a song about fancying Joseph in your school nativity or cringe at some cracker jokes or tap dance to Slade, LET US KNOW!!

A BURLESQUE ACT WHERE YOU REPEATEDLY SMASH A CHRISTMAS PUDDING WITH YOUR ASS? A MONOLOGUE ABOUT A FAMILY CHRISTMAS GONE WRONG? A NEW PIECE OF FESTIVE MUSIC YOU'VE COMPOSED? AN INTERPRETATIVE DANCE OF A CHESTNUT ROASTING ON AN OPEN FIRE?
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We're hosting our very first ❄️ Nocturnal Festive Scratch Night Panto Performance Bonanza 💥 on 16th December and we want to start curating a line up of yuletide gay delights!

The night will run like our usual joyful scratch nights, but this time with a festive twist, and some panto-style raucous audience involvement, expect outlandish fairytale narration in between acts, singalongs and overall q***r Christmas party vibes.

We provide performers with 10 minute slots and payment is door-split between the number of acts. You are encouraged to apply with works in progress, snippets of larger works, never seen before performances or older works in need of a dust off. Maybe it's an idea you've never physically realised, or a poem you've been working on that would be made funny by you being dressed as Santa for no reason or maybe you've got a christmassy cabaret act that our Nocturnal audience would squeal with glee for? We're open to hearing everything! (Violet would particularly like to hear from anyone willing to smash a christmas pudding with their ass) (no, seriously PLEAASEEE). Send us an email with your pitch, a little bit about you, and any tech requirements you might have - we're very happy to chat through ideas, and even workshop things with you, if it feels necessary! We want this to be a night of joy, big costumes, high camp, chosen family wholesomeness, goodies, baddies and audience involvement - so help us make it so!

It’s our favourite time of the month where we await our inbox filling up with gorgeous new performing ideas! What a TREAT! You know the drill - Would you like to perform? Got something in development you’d like to try oot? Need some audience feedback on a new piece? Get in touch!

NOCTURNAL SCRATCH NIGHTS are monthly scratch nights for performance makers to test out their work in freedom to a loving audience. The night is structured so that every performer/piece has a slot of 10 mins to share what they want, whether that be a fully formed piece, a work in progress or an extract of a larger work. We will discuss artist-led feedback options with you prior to the night, so that you can get the most out of these scratch events! And we end the night with some silly games to help make networking and socialising a little less stiff!

Work could range from contemporary performance, story telling, dance, monologues, poetry, abstract physical collages, comedy stand up, musical compositions, circus juggling, multimedia experiments, cabaret, yodelling, ensemble screaming, or whatever you’d like - every event is a unique patchwork!
NOCTURNAL events gives artists the space to fail, learn, create, collaborate, and bounce ideas off a supportive audience.
We invite performers from all backgrounds, disciplines, gender expressions, sexualities, ages and abilities - we welcome all!

NOCTURNAL ARTS AND EVENTS is a self funded, self sustained event company, q***r-owned and run. We rely on people attending our events and supporting us with what they can, so that we can profit share and bring new arts to Glasgow.
