Coming up next week ! St James' Coatbridge

We are back! After our summer break, our classes are back up and running and we have recommenced singing at Mass. Our chant class sang First Saturday Mass at St James' Coatbridge beautifully on Saturday and we returned to Glasgow Latin Mass on Sunday.

Here is a clip of Adoro Te Devote from after Holy Communion featuring our chant class and our Glasgow branch of Cantores Kids. The organ prelude and postlude were by Mendelssohn with improvisations in the same style throughout.

Our September newsletter was available over the weekend and includes details of all the organ and choir music. This includes translations of the additional music sung by the choir.

Enquiries about our classes can be sent to [email protected]

And that's a wrap! We have made so much progress this year.

- All of our singers have made strides in their vocal ability and understanding of the sacred liturgy.
- The repertoire of chant and motets has grown.
- Many members have sung solos or taken a turn to lead.
- Our Cantors have ventured deeper into chant analysis and are singing some of the propers at Mass in a more informed and prayerful manner.
- We have founded the Pueri Cantores, our children's chant class.
- We have inaugurated our monthly newsletter which contains translations and details of the music we are singing. It also contains a 'Chant Chat' column which explores aspects of sacred music.
- We have provided sacred music on a weekly basis for .latin.mass and on a monthly basis for St James Coatbridge, not to mention lots of special occasions such as the Paschal Triduum, Forty Hours, Requiem and Votive Masses.

Most of all, we hope that our twofold aim has been achieved for another year; to give glory to God and to help the faithful to encounter Him through the beauty of the liturgy.

My personal thanks to the members for their commitment and friendship and to all those who have offered encouragement.

We will continue to sing the noon Mass for .latin.mass over the summer holidays as availability allows but things will be scaled down as we enjoy a well earned rest!
