Set your alarms, tonight at midnight you will be able to hear James Horner’s lost score Skyward Spirit for the very first time! ⏰✈️

It was an honour to record this newly discovered piece of music by the late, world-renowned film composer James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart). If you haven’t seen the video yet, here’s a reminder of how it came to be: https://bit.ly/4Ac1XyT

The recording will be available to stream and download in all the usual places: https://listen.scot/rsnoss

Wow, eleven concerts in three days! By splitting the Orchestra into three ensembles, we managed to bring the magic of Yoyo & The Little Auk to schools in multiple council areas at the same time.

Thanks to Martin Shields as always for the great photos, captured yesterday at Montgomerie Park Primary School 📸

The perfect backdrop for us celebrating that Gaspard’s Foxtrot can now be watched by schools across the UK on Charanga ! 📺🎶

We were delighted to be joined by Zeb Soanes (author of the book), James Mayhew (illustrator) and Mark Burke (Founder & Managing Director of Charanga) to talk about what this means for Gaspard’s Foxtrot and music education in the UK.

With thanks to our Principal Bassoon David Hubbard and his children and photographer Danny Kaan for bringing this moment together 📸

Teachers, sign up to Charanga today!

We’re so excited to announce that as of today, millions of children across the UK will now be able to watch Gaspard’s Foxtrot on the online music and arts education platform Charanga!🦊

Created in partnership with Visible Fictions, Gaspard’s Foxtrot is an animated short film that animation introduces children in lower primary school to the world of classical music through the story of a loveable fox who accidentally boards a bus and ends up exploring London’s sights and sounds on his way to Proms in the Park.

Today we begin our next tour of Yoyo & The Little Auk, with 14 free concerts for schools taking place this month.

But as school budgets continue to be cut, the cost of even getting pupils to these free concerts can create a financial barrier.

At the RSNO we believe that every child in every community should have the opportunity to experience classical music and all the benefits it has to offer. Which is why on our last schools tour we spent over £11,500 on bus bursaries for schools.

If you would like to help us continue to introduce children to their national orchestra then please consider donating to our Every Child, Every Community appeal: https://bit.ly/3IyiHKH 🚌

We were grateful that someone recently got in touch to send us this photo from the Edinburgh International Festival in 1953. It was taken at the Usher Hall during our performance of Richard Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel.

If you have any old photos of the Orchestra performing over the years we would love to see them! Please don't hesitate to send them to [email protected] and tell us your story 📸

There are just three weeks to go until our first concert of the 2026:27 Season, Mahler Six. In 2019, during Thomas Søndergård's first Season as our Music Director, we performed this epic symphony and this is what Bachtrack had to say about it:

'...they made it a deeply powerful experience. The most impressive thing was how together it all sounded. The brusque crotchets of the opening march had a terrific bite to them that launched the whole thing with determination and grit in the teeth.'

Hear how powerful it sounds seven years on at the Usher Hall (18 Sep) and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (19 Sep) as we kick off Music Director Thomas Søndergård's final Season.
