Another handy bird guide that absolutely no one asked for!

So it turns out the shelduck has nothing to do with shells - sheld was once used to mean 'variegated'. However, if you add the extra L, it becomes a beachcombers paradise.

Turns out there are way more than 50 shades of greylag, and lots of them aren't even grey...

I don't usually draw directly over photos (it is a photo I took though so no copyright issues) but I wanted to capture the true range of colours showing up in a picture of a greylag goose so I used the colour pick tool to make the most of the different shades.

At this time of year there are lots of geese and goslings around, so here is a handy guide for the honk intensities. Any geese still fluffy and a bit yellow have a lower-case honk, whereas the adults generally honk in all caps.
