I initially studied Visual Communication at The Glasgow School of Art, where I specialised in photography. Over the years I have gravitated towards fine art and most particularly pastel painting, although I also enjoy working with charcoal and various types of pencils. Photography still holds an interest for me and I capture all of my own reference photos for use back in my studio space. For me, t

he creative process starts with a good walk and my iPhone! As well as producing art from my own personal inspiration, I also enjoy working on commissioned paintings and drawings. I was delighted to hand in my painting, Ayr from The Carrick Hills, to Maclaurin Art Gallery in Rozelle today as part of the 32nd annual savethechildrenayruk Art exhibition which opens later this month.

Just one week to go until International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight takes place above Ayr seafront.

These are three hand embellished prints that I created a few years back to celebrate the festival. To be honest I forgot about them until now!

Each are mounted ready for you to put in your own frame and as an air show special, I am selling these for the special price of £50 for ‘Watchful Greenan Castle’ and £65 each for ‘Against golden skies’ and ‘Afternoon walk’. They’re a lovely hybrid between a print and an original piece of art ❤️ Delivery within Ayr or Prestwick is free.

I’m very pleased to say that my painting, Deil’s D**e, has been accepted to the Ayrshire Tales exhibition at Souter Johnnie’s Cottage in Kirkoswald. The exhibition runs from 4th - 28th September.

The exhibition looks at myths, legends and stories of Ayrshire, passed down over the years and interpreted by the artists involved.

My painting captures cormorants on Deil’s D**e, along the coast from Greenan Castle in Ayr. At high tide there’s not much to see but as the tide recedes this ancient whinstone intrusion is revealed. Is the d**e a result of volcanic activity or is it the remains of a massive rampart built by the devil which apparently stretches all the way to the Solway Firth? This is certainly how the d**e has featured in historic coastal folklore with links to the macabre, shipwrecks and the like.

I can’t wait to see what other tales will be on offer…

I was delighted to hand over my finished robin (and my daughter’s sky themed butterfly) at the Burns cottage education pavilion yesterday - the final day of the ‘Gilding the Lily’ workshops stage of the wonderful Alloway Tunnel Project.

If you’re not already familiar, the project has been an epic community initiative which began 3 years ago - check out their page and that of the very talented leads, Chris Rutterford - Artist and Lubi Lykan Couture & Embroidery

I can’t wait to see the completed mural!❤️
