Acting Up was established in 2001 and provides quality Performing Arts education in Gateshead and Newcastle that is complementary to, yet independent of school studies. Whilst we are aware that some pupils will wish to pursue a career in Performing Arts in which we support and encourage, our primary concern is to harvest the potential of every child. What an amazing first day back at Acting Up! 🎭

Our children acted, sang and danced their hearts out, and everyone performed brilliantly. We were also delighted to welcome lots of lovely new starters to our Acting Up family! 💙

🎭 Celebrating 25 Years of Acting Up! 🎭

This summer marks 25 years of Acting Up — a milestone that fills me with enormous pride.

What began as a small drama class has grown into a thriving Theatre School that has supported and inspired thousands of children over the past 25 years.

During that time, we have had the privilege of watching our students develop not only as performers, but also as confident, resilient and articulate young people. Many former students have gone on to pursue careers in the performing arts, teaching and a wide range of other professions, while others have simply carried with them the confidence, friendships and life skills they gained during their time at Acting Up.

Looking back over the last 25 years, I feel incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of our journey. Thank you to our dedicated staff, our wonderfully supportive families and, most importantly, our incredible students — past and present — who have made Acting Up the very special place it is today.

I am so proud of everything we have achieved together and incredibly excited for what the future holds.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of former Acting Up student Sophia, who has recently graduated from Royal Holloway University of London with a First Class Honours Degree in Theatre Scriptwriting, Drama and Creative Writing. 👏🎉

Sophia is now living and working in London, assisting two talent agents, where she is helping emerging actors find exciting opportunities within the industry.

Looking ahead, her long-term ambition is to become a professional screen and stage writer. During her time at university, she wrote an incredible three stage plays and two feature film scripts – an outstanding achievement that reflects her creativity and dedication.

Sophia also has an important message for aspiring performers:

“Drama school definitely isn’t the only way forward. I don’t think I would have thrived as much if I’d gone to one, but I still found plenty of opportunities to perform through university societies and the National Youth Theatre.”

At Acting Up, we love seeing our students forge their own unique paths in the performing arts. There is no single route to success, and Sophia is proof that passion, hard work and determination can open so many doors.

Congratulations, Sophia! We can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next. 🌟❤️

An outstanding 100% pass rate in our summer LAMDA examinations, with every single student achieving a Distinction. What an incredible achievement!

What an incredible week we’re having! Our talented young performers have been working exceptionally hard, developing their singing, dancing and acting skills as they bring the magic of Frozen to life. 🌟

The enthusiasm, dedication and confidence shown by every child has been amazing to see. Alongside all of the rehearsals, we’ve still found plenty of time for fun, games, laughter and making wonderful summer memories together!

We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been creating!
