We have paired with some of the UK’s most talented and respected music professionals to unwrap the mysteries of the music industry in a select series of informative and informal
Let’s Meet… Masterclasses.
The sessions are free, online, are open to anyone between the ages of 18 – 25 who are interested in learning more about the music industry.
Hosted by Jennie Brewis (The Cornshed Sisters /Pop Choir Project) each week we will meet a very special guest and music industry expert to talk about different areas of the live music industry from being a music agent, running a live music venue, working as a national concert promoter, working with press, pr & media and running a whole tour!

Let’s Meet… A TOUR MANAGER
CARON MALCOLM - Tour Manager
Caron is a tour manager to a huge number of artists and has been going on tour since the mid 80’s. Caron has worked as worldwide Tour Manager for major artist including The Verve, Paolo Nutini, Laura Mvula, The Liberteens, Bebel Gilberto, The Charlatans, Joss Stone and Siouxsie Sioux. among many others. Caron tour managed Spiritualized for their ‘Highest Gig in the World Series’ on the top of the CN Tower and World Trade Centre. In this session Caron will share her extensive knowledge of live touring, the logistics and planning involved, how to deal with promoters, problem solving, ego managing and explain who’s who and the roles they play in a big touring family.

EMMA BANKS - Agent & Director of CAA (Creative Artists Agency)
Music industry agent Emma Banks is one of the leaders at global entertainment agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and represents artists such as Muse, Kylie, Florence + The Machine, Katy Perry & Lorde. During her career Emma has received a number of industry awards including the 2018 MITS award for her incredible contribution to the UK music industry. Honoured twice by the Women of the Year Awards in the Music Industry Emma is a trailblazer for women in music and the hardest working agent we know. In this masterclass Emma will talk about how she got started in the industry, share what it means to be a music agent, how to find an agent, the skills in spotting of and developing new talent and how you manage to get worldwide tours on the road.

Let’s Meet… A VENUE PROGRAMMER
TAMSIN AUSTIN - Sunderland Fire Station
Tamsin was a founding team member of Sage Gateshead and as Head of the Popular and Contemporary music program was responsible for programming over 4,000 concerts bringing hugely acclaimed artists such as Nick Cave, James Brown, Rufus Wainwright, Laura Marling, Irma Thomas, KD Lang and Pet Shop Boys to the region. Tamsin’s work and vision helped to firmly place Sage Gateshead as an internationally renowned and respected venue for live music. Before Sage, Tamsin was music programmer at Glasgow’s The Arches and has very recently moved to lead the team at the brand new Fire Station Sunderland music venue due to open later this year. In this session you will learn about how Tamsin got started in the industry, her passion and love for music programming, how to book a band, deal with music agents, work alongside tour and production managers, promote shows and produce a music program for audiences to enjoy.

CONAL DODDS - Promoter Crosstown Concerts
Conal is a national live music promoter and co-director of UK concert promoters Crosstown Concerts. Conal began working as a promoter after putting on his own self promoted gigs in and around Hereford and later Bristol during the early 1990’s going on to work for concert giants MCP and later Metropolis Music. Conal co-promoted one of the Britpop era’s defining events with 2 sell-out, 125,000-capacity Oasis shows at Knebworth in 1996. Having left Metropolis Music in 2016 to set up Crosstown Concerts he continues to promote shows across the UK with acts including Massive Attack, Lana Del Rey and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. This session with give you a chance to meet one of the best promoters in the business and hear how to he got started promoting gigs, how to work with agents and make offers, how to spot talent and chase shows, deal with venues and hear some great stories!
