Two new plays. One Sunday afternoon of live theatre.
Vivien Jones and Carolyn Yates are delighted to be part of this year's Festival of New Writing at Theatre Royal Dumfries, with a rehearsed reading of my new play Talking Tea, alongside Vivien Jones's Something To Do With Snakes. Both plays are directed by Ken Gouge.

The Cosmic Writer conjures Katherine Clerk Maxwell, Emma Darwin and Sophia Kovalevskaya from different corners of the 19th century for an impossible tea party.

Something To Do With Snakes by Vivien Jones
Janine desperately wants to be a hairdresser like her gran, Isobel wants each day to pass without incident, and Mrs Clay wants to mark her birthday by doing something unexpected. When these three aspirations clash, there's bound to be a little chaos.

Tickets for each day £6pp plus £2 booking fee. Also pay on the door.

"Utopia" by Tom Murray. Directed by Sandy McDougall.
About: What is Utopia? The ultimate dream, or a nightmare disguised as a dream? Are Death and Disease part of who we are whether we wish it or not? I they were no more, would it be a dream, or a nightmare?

"And They Danced To Keep Warm" by Tom Murray. Directed by Anne Aldridge.
About: Don't we all want a safer society for ourselves and our families? A society free of crime? Is that even a debate? What would you do to achieve this; sanction or turn a blind eye?

Saturday 27th June 19.30 (doors open 18.30)
"The Rebel and the Queen" by Thomas McClure. Directed by Scott Cooper.
About: When a royal princess and her secret lover are torn from their pleasant lives and cast into a civil war, the beliefs that bound them together are tested. Can they coexist, or will the crown tear them apart?

CatStrand:
A film and discussion with the prize-winning film maker and visual artist Sue Thomas and the Women Who Write Collective (Carolyn Yates, Maggie Gordon, Jools Cox, Rose Ardron and Alex Little) followed by a writing workshop.
Tickets £5 via CatStrand website or on the door.
Our film captures a feeling of reflection, of harvesting memories and Autumn’s largess. It unstoppers, decants and spills out memory in poetry and prose, inviting you to think about what it is to cook, preserve, nurture and feed others in a rural landscape.
