📢 ADJUDICATOR ANNOUNCEMENT 📢
We have our fiddle and bothy ballad judge in place.

Speaking about his appointment DJT said:
“I know more about this than anybody.”

He even wrote a wee bothy ballad:
Oh I came tae the bothy, the best ye’ll ever see,
A tremendous wee steadin’, built perfectly by me;
For nae man plays the fiddle wi’ skill sae grand and rare,
A lot o’ folk are sayin’ there’s nane that can compare.

I’ve the finest words in Scotland, the greatest in the land,
And my bowin’s pure phenomenal—aye, truly something grand;
So gather roon’ and listen, ye’ll hear it soon enough—
I’m the best at Bothy Ballads, folks, the rest are second stuff!

First class entertainment at the Gala Accordion & Fiddle Club tonight, with top musicians in our guest band...James Coutts and Iain Cathcart on accordion, with rhythm section of Ian Adamson(drums) and Graham Berry(piano)...video to follow once I can work out how to do it 😁.
These guys have been at the top of their game for many years, and it shows! Smooth and polished performance, but with no lack of drive and "dunt"... Many thanks, guys..."safe hame"! 👏👏👏

The first meeting of 2026, on Thursday 5th February, will see us back in our old venue, the Clubrooms of Gala YM Rugby Club, 4 Roxburgh Street, Galashiels, TD1 1PF, but this time downstairs, on the right just inside the main door.

Unfortunately, due to various constraints, we won't be able to offer our usual catering facilities, although there will be a limited bar and we intend to offer tea/coffee/biscuits at the interval in return for a donation to cover costs.

Our guests are the very popular James Coutts and friends, supplemented by our local and some further-travelled regular musicians, assuring us of their normal high standard of entertainment...

In March 1987 the James Coutts Trio, comprising James on accordion, Ian Adamson on drums and Graham Berry on piano, made their debut as guest artistes at the Newburgh Accordion and Fiddle Club and the same th*****me are looking forward to playing at Gala A&FC almost 39 years later.

Over subsequent years, the trio gradually augmented into a full band and made their debut on BBC Radio Scotland’s “Take the Floor” programme in May 1994. They have recorded over 20 further sessions and have recorded 7 CDs (three commercial and four commissioned by various Scottish Country Dance organisations).

Stating time at 7.30pm, admission charge £8 for non-players...We look forward to welcoming friends old and new to a cracking session of our kind of music...!

Most of our loyal followers and friends will already know that unfortunately the Club is once again without a venue, due to "circumstances outwith our control"...We'd like at this point to give a huge thanks once more to Andrew Glover, Ben & all the staff who looked after us so well at Stow, and wish them all the very best for the future.

At the time of writing this, we have made provisional alternative arrangements for premises until the end of the season, and intend to hold our February, March and April meetings there...full details will be provided before the meeting on Feb 5th with guests the James Coutts Scottish Dance Band.

In the meantime, we'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year when it comes...

See ye next year... Bide safe oot there!
