I’m Sally, an artist based at Black Swan Arts in Frome. I work mainly in emulsion and watercolour, creating detailed and whimsical images of nature and rural scenes, and the quiet moments of connection we find in nature. My work often weaves together themes of ecology and creativity, drawing inspiration from the resilience and beauty of nature and our spaces in it. On this page I’ll be sharing new

I spent an inspiring morning with the lovely people at Heal Somerset and Somerset Wildlife Trust learning about the incredible changes taking place as the land regenerates - thank you! I couldn’t believe how green it is in the beaver-created wetland, in spite of the temperatures we’ve been having. Just goes to show what can happen when nature is allowed to take its course 🌱

My dad brought me up to believe I could do anything I put my mind to. I’ve tried many things and been terrible at a lot (dancing - 2 left feet 🤦🏻‍♀️😆), but the important thing is that he gave me an open view on life and a conviction that I could follow my dreams. Dad has always been there for us, with an open door and a listening ear, and a very capable pair of hands.

I just love a busy bit of ground, can’t help myself, either painting it or filling up my photo library. I’m always being sidetracked by the tiny intricacies and beauty of the wildflowers that inhabit our everyday spaces… it can make me really annoying to go on a walk with 😆
