Throwback time. I have just realised it is 10 years since I started selling prints.
Way back in early 2012 I decided I needed a creative outlet from the client side of my design practice and had a few ideas I wanted to play with so I took the plunge, invested a few hundred pounds and got some initial ideas screen printed down in Brighton where I was living at the time. A few sold so I did some more, quickly growing the range, by 2013 I had decided to leave the agency I had cofounded and mix my time between client work and selling prints, we had also moved to Frome in Somerset, so it felt like a good time to be more in control of how I could work.
I think more from luck than skill it took off and by 2015 I was selling hundreds if not thousands a year.
My mane source of sales, a very popular marketplace, changed how they work and instead of freedom to be creative, your ideas had to be approved, this did not sit well with why I started, so I decided to take my foot of the pedal, and scale things back, forgo the income over creative freedom. Plus I started a coffee company which was taking up increasing amounts of time.
We sold the coffee co in 2019 and I am back to mixing my time between client work at MrO.design, my side project and my prints over at anthonyoram.com
Back to the reason why I started, to play, to explore, to be creative. Freedom from approval, I create what I want, when I want, it feels good.
A huge thanks to anyone who has purchased a print from me over the last 10 years, it is much appreciated and I hope they have brought you some joy :)
Here are a few of the early ones.
