Firstly a massive THANK YOU for your amazing support and love last Sunday .

Overwhelmed doesn’t cover it! Our Cakescape was cleared by 10.30am, thankfully we had more cakes to replenish but we sold out so quickly after that. 🙏

Amazing to see familiar faces & new too. I wish there was time to talk more! So many of you asked about the creative story behind the designs which meant so much. Really good to know you enjoy this. With me there’s always a story and concept behind the cake design as a creative it’s simply the way I work. Thanks for appreciating that! Scroll for more market pics ➡️

Love the shades here in this Cedric Morris floral painting (discovered via 🙏). He was a fabulous artist & plantsman. The rust, jade, brick red & aubergine make a beautiful rich combination that feel naturally festive to me. With a nod to fabulous poster designed for the both were very much the inspiration for our ‘Arts, Crafts, Plants & Christmas’ festive designs at the market last Sunday.

⬜️▫️LESS IS BORE - LESS IS MORE’.🌸🌺

Spin the cake it’s another bake!

There is very rarely a true ‘front’ or ‘back’ to my designs. Often my initial preferred ‘side’ becomes the back. The great thing is you get to decide your favourite - every angle has been considered.

I love the 3 dimensionality of cake as a seamless base for design. It becomes a revolving edible tapestry!

See my previous post for full design info.

⬜️▫️’LESS IS BORE - LESS IS MORE’ 🌸♥️

Named after Robert Venturi’s famous Post Modernist maxim ‘Less is Bore’ this is a cake of real contrast.

Designed for the very lovely Sigrid a talented local architect - this design is a great example of just how bespoke I love to work.

Sigrid loves Post Modernist architecture hence the theme for the cake

‘Less is Bore v Less is More’ - perhaps every great architect’s battle. Carefully considered quiet design v show stopper flamboyance.

Post modernist inspired geometric panels - rectangles, squares are layered up against each other (this is the less is more section) in soft subtle neutrals. These neutrals are enlivened with colour sections inspired by the clever unexpected colour blocking - pistachio against lilac, sunflower yellow and fluro tomato pops.

Along with an explosive Josef Frank section (➡️ to see the other side of the cake) this being Sigrid’s fave textile designer.

Topped with some beautiful bold blooms S’s fave from a recent bouquet.

Sigrid’s husband supplied me with so much brilliant creative inspiration about all of his wife’s favourite things. Scroll ➡️ to see inspiration. I loved designing this cake - cross referencing, abstracting and fusing these references.

Designed and delivered in the madness of lockdown it was such a joy to bring something so personal to the door.

Hello there again Insta friends!

Thanks for staying with me. I took a hiatus from social media but definitely not from baking! It’s been really good during this time keeping work more local and also so warming to rely on good old fashioned word of mouth and reputation. It is still possible in our digital world!

To those for whom I have baked during this time thank you so much for your orders and wonderful support. Now it’s time to share what I’ve been up to, reconnect and relaunch my socials 😃♥️.

Our ‘Golden Glow’ cake pre delivery to this weekend. I love this time of year as the seasons change. When we are blessed with a beautiful sunny day it feels like Golden Hour lasts all day long.

I hope you have all survived lockdown as best you can. My elderly mother moved in with us throughout the period and so I had to focus on keeping her well & shielded rather than supply and deliver. I was very lucky to enjoy the slow time and made health and fitness my focus. I felt so privileged to be able to do this.

Apologies for the radio silence on here! I have been back baking since July and have so enjoyed creating cakes for your special celebrations. Thank you so much for all your enquiries, orders and for sticking around and following us it is so appreciated. No more radio silence. Looking forward to sharing more. Recent creations as well as those from larger events I have yet to share with you. The good times as we know them will return and we will appreciate them all the more when they do. In the meantime I feel it’s important to enjoy what we can, when we can. Stay well & keep positive we can do this 💪💕💕.

Always a pleasure to work with the fabulous team. An early autumn vibe for yesterday’s micro wedding. Loved baking these fragrant layers so perfect for the changing season. Top tier coffee cardamon & walnut cake layered with an espresso caramel, fresh raspberries, pomegranate and a touch of raspberry coulis. Bottom tier spiced carrot & pecan cake, drizzled with a blood orange syrup, layered with a zesty Seville marmalade & sharp physalis fruits. Eat Your Art Out.

Another show stopper of a cake from for last nights micro wedding - before the rules change to 15 tomorrow. As the sun went down, we lit hundreds of candles, decorated the chairs with sheepskins and left plenty of room for social distancing.

Meet Dotty! ⠀

She’s definitely not a cake - but as it’s I couldn’t resist sharing a pic of my lovely red setter Dotty. Even though she can’t be with me in the kitchen, she is a very important member of The Bakemonger family. She’s in charge of keeping us smiling and she’s very good at her job. ⠀

We start every day with a long dog walk in the gorgeous somerset countryside we’re so lucky to have on our doorstep. While we walk she gets so many smiles, as soon as she’s made eye contact she glides over, leans in and hugs all humans she possibly can without any prejudice. So admirable. She also really loves to photobomb at any given opportunity! 😃 I have so many photographs of her with strangers!⠀

I think it wouldn’t be a bad thing if we were all a little more dog. BE KIND. ⠀ ⠀

Scroll for a fab portrait of dots created by our clever Frome friends at .ink 🐕 🧡💙⠀
