Another Bristol-based Ben in the house, Ben Hutcheson is a modern country artist bringing today’s Nashville sound to the UK. Career highlights so far include 50+ mill streams online, being Radio Bristol’s “house artist of the week” and being supported by Scouting For Girls at Bristol Foodies Festival due to a scheduling mix-up! 🤣

JESSIE REID

Based near Birmingham, Jessie is an indie folk musician known for her percussive “lap-tap” guitar style. She has garnered over 6 million streams, was awarded BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year in 2024, has supported Loudon Wainwright III, and has played on 3 continents - including a gig in Brazil that overlooked Christ the Redeemer! Jessie has recently released her second album ‘Little Sparks’ 💫

Before we head to our next sold out Sofar Sounds Frome tomorrow, here’s a lovely memory from our last one at the gorgeous Berkley Grange in a cosy room next to a fireplace dating back to around 1520 and a secret door behind a bookcase! 🔥

Self taught singer-songwriter Taylor Latham was brought up on the North Devon coast, which shows through his warm, laid back style and themes of nature, love and the intricacies of daily life in his lyrics. Sarah Gosling, of BBC Introducing South & West, describes Taylor’s work as ‘a perfect balance - beautiful vocal on top of the lush and atmospheric acoustic arrangements’.
Check out his music! It really takes you to another place ✨💫

When Ed asked Taylor about some past heckles, he said that he’d been compared to Cillian Murphy. We can see it - what do you think?? 👀

Ali Austin played a mesmerising set of her original songs during November’s Sofar Sounds Frome — joined by guitarist who she had met just a week or so before! She even debuted a gorgeous new song which does not yet have a title (please update us if you’ve chosen one since, Ali!)

Originally from Wales and now based in Bristol, Ali’s sound is rooted in soul and R&B draws influences from artists such as Olivia Dean and Yebba. Her soulful vocals with introspective songwriting resonate deeply with her listeners 🎶

Major Malfunktion is a Frome-based musician whose violin style transformed five years ago when he received a loop peddle as a birthday gift. Zak describes his music as “psych-folk”, citing influences ranging from Aphex Twin and Luke Vibert to classical. Past gigs include the Woodsies stage at Glastonbury Festival, where he had to single-handedly carry all his gear from the opposite end of the site. No mean feat and he made it - phew! 🎪💪

Bristol-based Hannah & Mark captivated the audience at our last Sofar Sounds Frome with striking sensitivity and beauty in every aspect of the music. Named after the snake’s head fritillaries mentioned in her mother’s poem, Hannah’s Pawson’s recent songs “have their hands in the soil” and take a compassionate look at the shadowy parts of ourselves 🎶🌿

“Fritillaries’ music features Americana instrumentation, folk roots and a pop song sensibility. It’s sometimes upbeat and driving, sometimes slow and contemplative, and always original and engaging. Something like Cara Dillon meets Born in the USA, played on banjo. The new album further edges the project into alt-folk, alt-pop and trip-hop 🎸🪕
