Frodsham Folk Club

Frodsham Folk Club Dedicated to folk and traditional music. Most meetings at Frodsham are for Singers when we welcome all performers who are sure to find a friendly audience.

Established for over 50 years a friendly folk club meeting on Friday afternoons 4.00pm to 6.00pm in Castle Park Arts Centre off Park Road leading to Fountain Lane Frodsham, Cheshire WA6 6SE

https://www.castleparkarts.co.uk/about/visiting/ Meetings are run by one of a rota of MCs who calls on the singers and musicians to perform in turn. About once a month a guest artist or group is booked ranging

from up and coming acts to more established performers. You will find us from 4:00 pm on Friday afternoons in the Castle Park Arts Centre
No membership is required and we currently charge £2.00 entrance
The meeting is relaxed and entertaining and we welcome all to come and listen or to take part. Play, sing, recite or just sit back and listen to local talent

Launched originally as the Poacher Folk Club in January 1968, after a couple of early venues in 1970 we moved into our longstanding home in the Stables behind the Queen’s Head in Frodsham, a unique setting, with many fond memories. Unfortunately when the pub was refurbished in February 2005 the club was forced to move and eventually settled into a new venue in the Conservative Club. After more than 12 months meeting on Zoom we moved to a new venue at the Castle Park Arts Centre. The club enjoys a mix of all sorts of acoustic music, from English/Scottish /Irish ballads, jigs and reels, to blues, contemporary folk songs as well as monologues and tall tales. Once again everyone is welcome to come either to perform or simply to listen and enjoy the various styles of music on offer. Please feel free to contact us with any enquiries or phone Grace Woods on 01925 740422 who can also be emailed at [email protected]

Scottish folk artist and broadcaster Archie Fisher has died.

The sad news was confirmed overnight – November 1st – through multiple sources; no cause of death was given, although Archie Fisher had recently entered hospice care for cancer. He was 86 years old.

Born into a lauded family of Glasgow based folk singers, Archie Fisher was musical from a young age. Immersed in the well-spring of Scottish folk song, his path took him to Edinburgh, becoming a firm fixture at legendary club The Howff.
