Huge congratulations to on her nomination for the Turner Prize, a deeply deserved recognition of the strength, poetry, and rigour in her work.

We are especially proud to have supported Kira early on as one of the inaugural artists in Strange Cargo’s Resident Platform exhibition and public sculpture programme. Her bronze sculpture Catcher, sited at Folkestone West train station, and her exhibition The Borrowed Condition at Strange Cargo’s gallery remain memorable milestones in the programme’s history. The companion piece to Catcher, is Church & Chapel which was created by the Friends of Cheriton Cemetery.

It’s a joy to see her grow and flourish, being recognised at the highest level, we look forward to seeing what’s next for remarkable practice.

Thank you to for giving permission to permanently site the art works for the Resident Platform and for the beautiful casting

Artist Bio
British painter Helen Lee creates expressive, narrative-driven works filled with humour, mystery and psychological depth. Based in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter, her paintings explore the human condition through playful, idiosyncratic figures shaped by a lifetime of travel and observation.

Lee’s work has been widely exhibited in both solo and group shows, including at the Royal Academy and Royal Scottish Academy, and is held in public and private collections such as the Imperial War Museum and Paintings in Hospitals.
