Ossaflores

Ossaflores I ❤️ Nature Hi everyone! My name is Suzy and I run Ossaflores. I have quite a large skull collection now and I'm always learning from it.

Skull collector, maker of skull displays, framed insects and bone jewellery 💀🥀
Shop not currently active due to worsening health, but will still sell on here occasionally! I've always loved arts and crafts and have had quite a lot of jobs including a florist and an embalmer's assistant, so I have a variety of skills and I'm really pleased I can use a lot of them all together now in my work! I star

ted making things as I am unable to work due to health problems I have, incuding Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, dystonia, POTS and fibromyalgia, but it doesn't stop me being creative and it keeps me sane! I have always loved the more weird and macabre parts of life and am fascinated by skulls and bones especially, I love working with them! I was inspired to work with butterflies and insects after taking a class on setting and preserving them, they really are beautiful! After I started making, my friends kept telling me I should be selling them so that's what I did! I like coming up with unusual ideas so keep an eye out for lots of unique items! I absolutely love all creatures so would never do anything that involved cruelty to animals and don't agree with anything dying just for art, but if there is a dead creature I prefer to make something pretty from it instead of it just being wasted. I get the butterflies from butterfly farms that aid conservation, most of the skulls and bones I use are other people's nature finds (I can't get out and about myself to look for things), roadkill, a few creatures are by-products from the meat industry and some are natural deaths from breeders and aviaries. I will also be using recycled packaging as much as possible (means I don't have to charge as much and its good for the environment! But I promise, everything will always be packaged well. If you have any requests for a custom order, please send me a message and I'll do what I can! Thank you for reading and happy shopping! =)

These two skulls are so similar if you ignore the size difference! It's pretty interesting 🙂 Capybara and guinea pig skulls for today. It makes sense if you think about it, if you've seen a living capybara they really do look like giant guinea pigs hehe, they are awesome creatures and I'd love to make friends with one ❤️

These skull shelves don't get as much attention as some of the others, and especially seeing as it's in my work room that I haven't used for quite a long time. Although these are generally more common species of skulls (various pigs, sheep and deer of different ages and species), I still enjoy them! And there are still some quite special skulls here, like a young Visayan warty pig which is actually a critically endangered species. There is a small mixed curio cabinet next to these shelves too, with a pile of fox skulls I just had to keep for myself hehe. I hope you like them!
I'm still not well enough to do any work and I still don't know if I ever will be, it's been the first summer in years that I haven't had loads of tubs of skulls and bones cleaning which is has been very weird (and a bit sad). I'll still keep posting here occasionally though and maybe one day I'll be able to do this again properly, we'll see!

I love these two skulls and they make a fun comparison so here is my big male South American sealion with my polar bear skull for 🙂

Before seeing their skulls in person I would have thought a polar bear skull would always be quite a bit bigger than the sea lion but these two are actually quite close in length and the sea lion is more chunky whereas the polar bear is more slender and streamlined. If the sealion skull was from a female then the polar bear would definitely be larger but male South American sea lions are pretty damn big! My polar bear skull isn't a really big example but it's still a decent size, they can be more chunky and longer than this though 🐻‍❄️

Both are marine mammals and these are the few marine mammal species I can legally own in the UK. Laws vary in different countries though

A little while ago I tried to get a photo of my main skull area from a different angle and tried to fit as much in it as I could, and I thought I'd share it today for 🙂 I won't list every species in this photo but the top shelf has a dromedary camel and various felines (wild ones like lions of different ages, cougars, caracal and others) and various domestic kitties, underneath them is the bears (brown, polar and young black bear) and hyenas (adult and juvenile spotted, adult brown and an aardwolf), a huge sealion and juvenile seal, a warthog and a goat. There's a shelf of different wild canine species at the top and there is an adult and baby zebra underneath those, they sit on top of the primate cabinet 💀 Then there are a nice selection of reptiles, bigger rodents and some random skulls like impala, guanaco, cows, deer etc hiding at the bottom of the big shelves! There are so many other skulls around the house in different cabinets and shelving units, I'd love to be able to get every skull I own in the same photo but that will never happen unfortunately.
If you have any questions about any skulls or have any you want to see, or want to ask if I have anything in particular, just ask! And please remember these are all my personal collection which means they are all staying right here 🙂 I'm sorry I don't post much nowadays, believe me I'm gutted that I can't do my work anymore but my health problems really have become very problematic so I'm just clinging onto it with my skull Sundays posts! I'm still trying to have some hope I may manage to do some again one day but we'll see 🤷‍♀️ Hope you enjoy the skulls!

Lots of very sharp teeth for 🐍 In this photo there is an adult and juvenile boa constrictor, a royal python and a reticulated python 🙂 I have a couple of other snake skulls but I can't remember what species they are.

I do still laugh a bit at the fact I had to go to the hospital once after trying to clean up a royal python skull, it was half rotted down at the time and one of the teeth went through my glove and pierced the skin on my thumb. I didn't think much of it but after a while it got more red and was throbbing, I got an infection from this tiny little tooth mark 🙈 Luckily antibiotics sorted it out pretty quickly but it was interesting trying to explain it to the doctor! She thought I'd been bitten by a living snake and looked at me like I was crazy when I explained 🤦‍♀️

For today, my adult and baby zebra skulls 🙂 They have their own little spot on top of my primates cabinet, and opposite them on top of another cabinet are my adult and baby horse skulls! Which look very similar of course. I still keep meaning to take some comparison photos of a horse and zebra together but I never take them down from the top of the cabinets, I must remember to do it at some point 🤦‍♀️ Oh and in case you are curious about the other things you can see in this photo, the antler is from a reindeer, the pug skull can just about be seen and the little skulls are stillborn puppies 🥺

I don't often post about my dog skulls as some of them look pretty similar to each other, but they all have their unique things about them! For today, here is a Pekingese dog skull I have (which I spent a long time degreasing when I first got it!) I've got a pug skull which also has an underbite and is severely brachycephalic (shortened snout) but this underbite stands out more! The above view shows clearly how much the lower jaw sticks out, and the front view shows what appears to be a deviated septum in the nose. It's always interesting finding these little qualities in any skull 🙂

I love my big old hippo 🙂 It's not often moved from it's table in the corner of the room due to how heavy it is, but it was great to get a few pics of it with some of my other skulls behind it 🦛

The size of this cow skull always makes me happy 🙂 I took a few comparison pics of this cow when I first got it with a few other skulls, as it just makes most of my other skulls look small! I find something so amazing about large animals and their bones, I'd have loved to have met this cow when it was alive 🐮 For today here is the big cow with an adult lion skull, which isn't a small skull! Of course I really love the lion skull, it's a lovely one, but cows are super impressive too 🙂

Some of you have probably seen me say recently that my shop is no longer active due to my ongoing health issues and me not coping very well anymore, and that will likely be the case for quite a while (hopefully not forever though) However, I've also mentioned that I might occasionally put some things up for sale on here as I have quite a few items I've made that I'd like to find homes for, and a few deer skull things too.

So for today here is one of the deer skulls I have available, it's an old red deer with writing on the skull. I did not write on it, and I could have tried to remove it but I think it can be cool when the skull is dated like this! It seems like the type of pen that would come off with acetone but I can't promise that. It's a nice big skull with a nice shape, if you might be interested then let me know and I can provide more pics. UK only £30 posted

I always enjoy looking at my fish skull collection, they are such a delicate and varied group of skulls! Maybe one day I'll get them all out of the cabinet to try and get a decent group photo but I don't know if I'd get them back in again without damaging something 😬 There's also a risk of piercing a finger on something sharp when handling them, quite a few have sharp teeth and this lionfish skull has boney spikes all over! I think this is quite a special skull and I love how odd it is, the living fish is just as odd and interesting too, with all their venomous spines. I remember seeing one in the sea years ago in Egypt and I definitely kept my distance!
