Topic: How harmony works in a male voice choir

🎵 Ever wondered how a male voice choir creates that huge, spine-tingling sound?

It’s not just lots of men singing loudly…

It’s harmony.

A traditional male voice choir is usually made up of four different vocal parts, each playing a unique role in the sound.

1️⃣ First Tenors
The highest voices in the choir.
They often carry the melody — the tune most people recognise.

2️⃣ Second Tenors
They sit just below the first tenors and help create rich harmony above the melody.

3️⃣ Baritones
The bridge of the choir.
Baritones fill the middle of the chord and help connect the higher and lower voices.

4️⃣ Basses
The foundation of the sound.
They provide the depth and power that gives male voice choirs that famous Welsh rumble.

When all four parts sing together, the sound blends into a single powerful chord that’s much bigger than the sum of its parts.

That’s the magic of harmony.

🎶 It’s one of the reasons Welsh male voice choirs are known around the world as part of our identity as the “Land of Song.”
