Pedally steve

Pedally steve I cut names, I tell stories, I try and keep you and your children entertained and give you all memories (as well as names) to keep.

Names are just 50p per letter and I make them while you watch. Thirty-five years on a fretsaw in action before your eyes.

Good morning, it's been a while since I posted here.

We have had confirmation that we have a place on York Christmas Market again this year. I don't know the location yet. This is in my "Rainbownames" incarnation with the Namemarks, It's just too expensive for me to do as Pedally Steve on the saw.

As far as the saw goes, the current plan is for me to be at Beach Street, Felixstowe again for the summer holidays, more details nearer the time. I have nothing else planned for this year but if that changes I'll let you know.

Until then, be well,

Pedally

Summer has ended and I'm headed back to base in Hull. I've accumulated assorted aches and pains over the summer (a bike crash and lifting the saw in and out of the car hasn't helped) and some time to heal up is going to be welcome.

I've really enjoyed the summer, met some great people, cut some fun names, as my Irish friends would say "It was a good crack!". The TikTok video having gone viral added to the fun of the last week with lots of people saying they'd seen me there including a family who drove over from Kettering to get names cut.

My plans for the future are that I will be back next Easter, all things being equal, and I will work the school holidays like I did this year. In October I'll put up a sticky post on this page with details of how to order names for Christmas. There is also the little matter of York Christmas Market on the horizon which is going to consume my energies preparing for over the next couple of months. I don't take the saw to the market, it's way to expensive and busy for me to do that, but we do carry 1,500 different names in stock.

Anyway, thank you all and be well. May we meet again somewhere along the road.

This my last weekend of my summer season and Autumn arrived today. Hopefully it's just temporary. I have parked up in my usual spot but that's more in hope than expectation.

In between the lunchtime showers on the last couple of days I've had some fun. Below are a couple of the more challenging things I've cut this week, the "hash tag" was the first one I'd cut in years, next time I'll try and get more of a slope to it, as it was I was just trying to work out how to cut it!

One of my wonderful customers made this video and posted it on TikTok. Thank you Keeley. Today I had a customer who saw it and drove over with her family to find me and have their names cut πŸ˜€

As you might guess, I had a fun day with great people.

On a more serious note, this coming week is my last week in Felixstowe for this season and the weather forecast foe the latter part of the week does not look promising. If you're coming to see me then sooner would be better.

I had a "day off" yesterday, my first non-trading day in two weeks. It wasn't planned :(

Before I went to park the car in its usual spot I went to restock the table and realised, that with a bank holiday looming, I was going to run out of several popular designs. So, into the car and head back to Hull (200 miles, four and a half hours including a meal stop) followed by seven hours of frantic production during which, with the help of a friend, we made 200 strips of name wood, about 300 feet in total. This should see me through the holiday weekend 🀞

Then it was time to head back to Felixstowe (four and half hours etc) and headed to bed. This morning the car has been parked up ready for the day if the cloud lifts and it doesn't rain.

So that was my "day off" which also came with the realisation as I leavered myself out of bed this morning that my body isn't as young as it used to be, no matter what my mind thinks!

PS I also managed to get in my 10,000 steps which kept my streak alive at 144 days.

After a week of sunshine, today was a day of two halves. It started overcast and breezy and ended up sunny and even breezier!

As the sun came out so did my lovely customers and I've met some great people today and cut some challenging names.

As far as "name of the week" is concerned I'm torn between "Quintillus" and "Artorius" both of which were firsts for me which is getting increasingly rare these days. "Khaleesi" doesn't qualify as I've actually cut it before.

Anyway, now to relax and try to ease my aching back, I've done done twelve days in a row and my body is reminding me that I'm not as young as I used to be :)

I'm not really au fait with modern teenage slang but I think the comment "That's so wicked cool it's sick!" was a compliment :)

Today is the halfway point of my summer season and at last the summer weather has decided to show up!

Due to the weather it's been a frustrating few weeks but it's looking fair for the next week so I'm hoping to be busy.

As ever the fun part has been the people I've met, some old friends, some new customers, but it's been great meeting everyone. Long may my body keep letting me do this. When I finished yesterday I was definitely feeling my age but maybe doing Parkrun (in my best time for several years) wasn't the easiest way to start the day.

Anyway I'm now off to set up and prepare for the day ahead.

That was an "interesting" week with the main lowlight being the weather, I've already lost more time to rain this year than in the whole of last summer. On the plus side the weather on a couple of days, today being one of them, was better than the forecast.

As ever the real plus was the people I met this week. I know I say this continually but it happens to be true! It's also the reason I keep going :)

The plan for this coming week is more of the same. The weather forecast keeps changing but at the moment the next few days look okay, time will tell.

The weather did not co-operate over the weekend and doesn't look like doing so for the next few days.

In reality that may not be a bad thing. When the weather relented Sunday evening I went for a bike ride and managed to have an unexpected bodily interface with the ground, ie I had a fall. Nothing broken but bruised and cut on my right side and my ribs aren't happy. Couple of days rest should see me ready to go when the weather relents which, according to the forecasts, looks like being towards the end of the week.

Well I'm back in Felixstowe for the Summer holidays and in an act of supreme optimism I have parked the car with, the saw etc in it, next to my usual pitch in front of Beach Street.

In all honesty the next few days are looking really iffy for trading but if I can I will :)

Be well
