South Coast Comedian Of The Year 2023

South Coast Comedian Of The Year 2023 A competition for comedians who live in or are from the southern coastal counties! PRIZES. Each comedian will have 6 minutes in the qualifying heats.

IF YOU WANT TO ENTER, READ EVERYTHING BELOW....

WHY?

“South Coast Comedian of the Year” is a competition now in its 9th year run by comedian and promoter James Alderson, for those who come from (or live on) the south coast counties. We aren’t trying to rewrite the history books here, as we know there are some awesome competitions for comedians in the UK (and some awful ones!), but what we do kno

w is that the south coast has a rapidly growing number of comedians who deserve recognition and this competition will give winning comedians a chance to make the UK comedy scene aware that they are making waves. The winner will win a £300 cash prize, but most importantly a paid gig at Spinnaker Tower Comedy Club, in the award-winning Gunwharf Quays Marina sharing the stage with well known pro comedians and acts off the telly. Of course there will also be a trophy awarded (now you’re interested eh?), and with agents and bookers attending the heats and semi finals in previous years, and judging the finals, there are lots of opportunities for comedians who enter! VOTING

Voting will be 75% audience and 25% judges for each heat and semi final (don’t worry, we’re good at maths!). Two comedians from each heat will go through to the semi-finals, and one wild card (awarded by the judges) and half the semi-finalists will get through to the final. THE NIGHT ITSELF

Running order will be picked from a hat before the heats start by the competitors.

7 Heats will take place in April through to October on Wednesdays in Fareham, the semi-finals in November, with the grand final in December. Ashcroft Arts Centre has hosted some of the biggest comedy stars for their tour dates over the last decade and we are delighted to have our competition there for 2022. It has parking, easily accessible by motorway from all regions and is near to the train station so it’s straight forward where ever you are coming from! Semi-finalists will have up to 8 minutes. Finalists will have up to 10 minutes. HOW DO YOU QUALIFY FOR ENTRY? As long you have been going for less than 7 years as a comedian, and aren't signed to an agent, then you can enter, and obviously you have to be from (or live in) the following counties:

Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Sussex, Kent

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

Name:
Address:
Are you from here, or just living here? Age:
Years gigging? Video Clip
Photo

Send all of this to: [email protected]

AND FINALLY:

Depending on the amount of applications (how many comedians live in these counties eh?), there may well be a qualifying round based on your 5 minute video clip entry, alone. There are only 80 spots in the competition, after all. We’ll update everyone how we are progressing the qualifying rounds when applications close on January 15th! We aren’t doing this for profit, or any reason other than we feel comedians on the south coast could find a competition just for them useful for their experience and CV, so enter if you like, or maybe just come along to check out the talent from round these parts! Either way, good luck to all!

ABOUT LAST NIGHT...

Erm...

So - this happened. We both were - and still are - a little bit shell-shocked. We're obviously chuffed to bits, too. It was such a strong line-up that literally anyone could've won and it would have seemed like a perfectly reasonable outcome. Congratulations to Alf and Keefy Jewell, who came second and third respectively. Both were absolutely brilliant.

And huge thanks to James Alderson for being the mastermind behind the whole competition, and a lovely fella too.

Aw man - we don't really have the words.

It's been quite a year.

One gig left. Let's make it a good 'un.
