After a fun afternoon performing at Harrison Primary School last week it was back to rehearsing for our concert "Come Dance with Me" on 27th of November.
Here is an excerpt from our first run through of Libertango, an interesting little number.

Our musicians throughly enjoyed playing to the pupils of Harrison Primary School, it is an absolute joy to perform and educate children who may never have heard live music before. Our thanks to Mrs Sparshott for coordinating the event.

With a smaller ensemble due to some of our brass members contesting we concentrated on running through music in preparation for performances at Harrison Primary School, Fareham later this month. We look forward to meeting the pupils and treating them to music from Aladdin, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter and much more.

First rehearsal back from Summer break. We are very grateful and thankful that Don Lloyd being our guest conductor, he worked us very hard, it is an inspirational experience for our members to make music under experienced conductors.

Don was RM bassoonist and Warrant Officer of the RM Band Service, after his retirement from the band service he became Head of Music for schools, and recently retired. If you need a bassoonist or conductor, do get in touch. 🎶🎶🎶

Don’t forget to come to our concert on the 27th November Friday, 7pm, Cams Hill School Event Hall, Fareham.

Although the air con was on in our rehearsal studio it was still warm during Saturday's rehearsal.
Time to focus on our amazing MD Ka Wai, she is not an exponent of a minimalist conducting style (such as Bernstein or Barenboim) and certainly gets a good workout during our three hour rehearsal.

Whilst our numbers were reduced yesterday due to members supporting local Armed Forces Day we were delighted to welcome three new faces, hopefully all will be regularly joining us in the near future.
Rehearsal was a tough session for all as we started preparations for our November concert sight-reading Danse Macabre, Bolero, Dances and Sonnets and Alfred Reds wonderful opener Curtain Up.

We opened our rehearsal on Saturday to anyone who wanted to come and play with us and it was a great success, we had 8 guests playing for a session which was sight reading for most of the ensemble. We are pleased to say one of our guests has already signed up as a member, thank you!
MD Ka Wai Cheng took us through Ravel's Bolero, Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre, De Haan's Dances and Sonnets ending up with a fun run through of Mamma Mia.
From our next rehearsal on 20th June we will be starting to work through numbers for our autumn concert, DM if you would be interested in joining us.

Do you play in a brass band or symphony orchestra and would like to try your hand with a wind band, or maybe you are looking to return to playing after a break.
Well now you can, we are opening our 6th June rehearsal at Cams Hill School to anyone who would like to come and play for an afternoon with us. Please arrive by 12.30 for a 1pm start
The rehearsal will be under the direction of our MD Ka Wai Cheng, sight reading is essential as we will not be sending out music in advance.
This is a free event but please register at: https://snappytickets.co.uk/event/you-are-invited-to-an-open-rehearsal/ in order that we can track who will be attending and to ensure we have sufficient music available. Join us during a break to chat to our members and enjoy free refreshments.
