I find this process beautifully meditative in between working on paintings.

Enjoying exploring the palette in this series: its inspiration, recent sketching at a shady natural pool in the countryside near my home. Today’s marks on the first painting here use a lovely buttery dusky pink oil stick. The pink chimes nicely with the green palette, while on the second touches of sky blue add an interesting counterpoint.

Two more new paintings in my current series inspired by shaded natural pools. Shadows, reflections, sunlight, leaves, ripples, dappled shade: a welcome oasis in a hot summer, although now just now there is plenty of water cascading from the skies!

New painting today inspired by a beautiful cool oasis I visited yesterday with a good friend who swims there. A tranquil shaded river pool, with sunlight sparkling through the trees and fish jumping for flies. Welcome time out from the heat.

I find it helps when I need to get back into painting, am between inspiration, or simply need to practice composition (or just have fun!) to experiment with abstract collage in my studio workbook. These are two I did today, I was in quite a relaxed frame of mind, surrounded by a mountain of collage scraps on tissue and teabag paper (usually from gel printing), and very much enjoyed it.
