Two Moors Festival

Two Moors Festival An annual classical music festival based across Exmoor and Dartmoor in Devon and Somerset, England.

In 2001, rural areas like Devon and Somerset were bitterly affected by the spread of the Foot and Mouth disease. Although the disease was wiped out after about a year, farming and tourism took a longer hit. Penny and John Adie decided to create a festival to bring cheer to the local people and the economy. Out of the ashes of Foot and Mouth disease came the Two Moors Festival. The festival was suc

h a success that it has continued to take place every year since. While it works much with local school children and charitable organisations, many highly talented musicians have performed and attended, awards have been won at events such as the Chelsea Flower Show and the festival is in association with Classic FM and has had recordings on BBC Radio 3.

The final event of our Dartmoor weekend of this year's Two Moors Festival is not to be missed!

One of the foremost clarinettists of his generation, Michael Collins has served as Principal Clarinettist of the Philharmonia Orchestra and London Sinfonietta, and is among the most recorded clarinettists in the world with more than 35 recordings to his name. As a soloist he has performed internationally on famous stages from Carnegie Hall to the BBC Proms and has been hailed as "one of the best clarinettists walking the planet" by The Times.

We are delighted to welcome him to Ashburton for a concert inspired by his highly acclaimed recording with pianist Noriko Ogawa, La Clarinette Parisienne.

Enjoy Debussy's seductive Rhapsodie, Poulenc's emotionally conflicted Sonata and one of Saint-Saëns' final works, Clarinet Sonata in Eb major, Op. 16.

Collins and Ogawa have given concerts worldwide and this concert promises to conclude our Dartmoor weekend in dazzling style.

Join us in Dulverton to hear Speak of the North by Gavin Higgins - a piece co-commissioned by the Two Moors Festival.

Described as "a vast and sprawling journey across the moors, mountains, cities and coasts of the north of England" (The Guardian), Gavin Higgins' new song cycle features poems by northern writers, such as Tony Williams and the Brontë sisters, interwoven with folk violin in a collection of musical pictures brought to life through song.

Speak of the North will be performed by award-winning soprano Claire Booth, violinist and Two Moors Festival Artistic Director, Tamsin Waley-Cohen, and GRAMMY-winning Festival favourite, pianist Christopher Glynn.
