How we created a fire, without flames 🔥

For a recent production, we developed a bespoke Smoke Blade to create the appearance of a green, flickering fire pit.

The system needed to be mobile, allowing it to be set and struck from an automated stage lift. With a performer being lowered into the space where the fire would be, a conventional flame wasn’t suitable. Our engineering team used smoke, ducting, controlled airflow and combined it with a clever lighting sequence to create the effect.

The result is a convincing fire, without a conventional flame.
