On the 30th anniversary of Melanie Hall's murder, attention has once again turned to serial killer Christopher Halliwell following reports that investigators have geographically linked him to the area where Melanie's remains were discovered.
Halliwell's sister lived just four miles away in Dursley, while his mother lived in the neighbouring town of Nailsworth throughout the 1990s. Detectives have long believed Melanie's killer may have had links to both the Bath and Gloucestershire areas.
A former friend of Halliwell also told investigators that the pair frequented Michaelwood Services in the late 1980s, just one mile north of the slip road where Melanie's remains were eventually found.
Melanie Hall's murder has also been noted by some investigators and commentators as sharing similarities with Halliwell's known crimes.
Like Becky Godden-Edwards and Sian O'Callaghan, Melanie was a young woman who disappeared after a night out.
Her body was transported from an urban area to a rural location, she suffered significant injuries, was stripped, and her remains were concealed.
Despite these similarities, Melanie Hall's murder remains unsolved and no one has been charged in connection with her death.
