My Dream Garden and Friends

I was inspired by an old and damaged print; it looked as if it was just foliage and a whole variety of creatures. There was no reference, so I can give none. I just loved the idea, so worked on it.

Legends of rock

This portrait is actually one part of a four-portrait piece. Terry Hall stands along with Steve Marriott (small faces) , Sid Vicious (pistols), and Kieth Flint (prodigy). I drew Steve first as a kind of sketch practice piece, then decided to do another, so I settled on the idea of music legends that I've enjoyed over the years who unfortunately are all deceased. It is a tribute piece to them, and it's now framed and hangs on my living room wall. 🙏

Dorothy Duck

My inspiration for upcycling preloved ornaments started in the Channel Islands, when we lived in Alderney from 2021 until October 2025. I actually started by painting one of our own ornaments that was a 1970s Doberman dog, dark brown and boring, and rather than throw it away, I put a primer paint on it and started to dot it with spots and patterns. I showed my work to my friends on Facebook, and I had an enormous response to my work.

Old ornaments, glasses, pottery, etc was generally thrown away after being at the local charity shop or the weekly winter jumble sales in Alderney, so I wanted to save it and give it a second life. Drab to fantastic, with spotty colours. Many people bought the preloved ornaments, and I've given a number away as presents. In 3 years, I saved many preloved ducks, birds, pigs, dogs, cats, chickens and even small trinket boxes from landfill.

Here in Devon, people also love my work, and it's very popular. I now buy animals in my local large town of Okehampton, so I'm helping charities along the way.

I love painting these ornaments; it's a kind of therapy and puts a smile on the face of those who see them. Each piece is unique, and I'm happy to keep on going!

Homage to Hockney

I have admired Hockney's work for many years, and on his death felt compelled to try to produce my own painting as a homage to him and his huge body of amazing work. His attitude to new methods of art creation, such as the iPad and photographic imagery, allied to his ability to reinvent himself, placed him in a category all of his own. In this painting, I hope I've captured a small taste of that.

An English Country Garden

32 x 32 inches oils on canvas. I always work from a reference photo, but not on this occasion. I was given this huge canvas, I started with trees and worked down; my only reference was a photo of the chair and table. I think I just painted where I would like to sit! I enjoyed the process.
