The Magic Hatstand® Story

Hi, I’m Richard. I brought back Magic Hatstand® on 6 January 2022. During lockdown, I hosted parties in my garden and RaveShed with friends we’d missed dearly. Dancing together again reminded us of a happier time. With my Mackie speakers and lasers, I thought: “I want this feeling when I go out.”

Magic Hatstand® had been retired after 12 years. For three years, I missed

it — and it turned out, so did many others. My ethos for Magic Hatstand® is simple: When you buy a party ticket, you should get a party. The music at MHS stays consistent from start to finish — no build-up, no warm-up, no “musical journey.” If I want to dance, let’s dance. We don’t publish the names of our guest DJs or set times — in fact, we keep them secret until two weeks before the party! Out of 21 parties since I brought back Magic Hatstand®, we’ve sold out 15 in a row and 18 in total — and the remaining three were very, very busy. Proof that you don’t need big names to throw a top-tier party. All the décor is hand-made with love, designed to come alive under blacklight and lasers only — creating that unmistakable Magic Hatstand® atmosphere. There are no VIPs at MHS — the most important people are the guests. That’s why doors open an hour before the first live set. Even those who can only stay for two or three hours get the same full party experience and vibe as those who stay all five. We want everyone who walks through the door to have the best night out — to feel welcome, safe, and free to dance, dance, dance. Your safety is non-negotiable, especially for our ladies — we’re here to party, but always to look out for one another. Your age, gender, or sexuality doesn’t matter. As I like to say:

“We’re all just people covered in skin.”

The age range at MHS? 18 to 73. Everything written below here is from Emma and Jimmi, ( Mum and Dad of MH)I have only altered dates and timings etc …….. The Magic Hatstand is a unique night full of fun and mischief with a fabulous Psychedelic Hatstand at its heart. Its kaleidoscope of radiating colours enticing you to choose a ridiculous hat, wear a silly moustache and cover yourself liberally in glitter! The music is primarily good chunky underground house. But ultimately it is not just about the sound; Magic Hatstand is all about the people who attend it! We realised a long time ago that you could have the best club and DJ’s in the world but without all the lovely people you’ve got.

A little bit of Magic Hatstand community spirit x

We’re introducing a pay-it-forward ticket option.

An extra 50p can be added to a ticket, and once those 50ps build up, they’ll go towards a gifted night out for someone who would really love to come and dance.

This could help a single person, a couple, a family, or someone who’s simply had a rough time and would really appreciate a good night out.

Brian Phillips at Bomba has kindly offered three drinks per ticket on the house too.

This will all be handled discreetly and respectfully by PM.

You may know someone who would really appreciate it, or perhaps someone who’s done something special for the community, shown real kindness, or is simply one of those good people who deserves something nice in return.

If you love Magic Hatstand, this is your last one until September 4th.
We don’t normally do a summer party because of the heat, but we’ve taken that into account. As much as it’s nice to get a sweat on and lose yourself properly, sometimes the temperature can get a bit much, so we’ll be putting a few things in place to help keep everyone comfortable and the dance floor stomping
So when you buy a ticket, you get a proper party. No warm-up, no “journey”, just deep, chunky, no-nonsense House from the first beat to the last. If you’re here — you dance.
There are no set times, and the guest DJs’ names will be dropped just two weeks out. No VIP, no hierarchy — the dance floor is sacred. Doors open early, so whether you stay for 2 hours or 5, everyone gets the same raw energy.
At Magic Hatstand, no one is a stranger. Be who you are and lose yourself in the music, the lasers, the black light, our fabulous handmade UV décor, our hand-decorated UV hats to light up the dance floor, and all the glow sticks, glitter, hats and moustaches. You’ll get a proper welcome from your hosts and, as always, proper space to dance because we never oversell.

What a fantastic Magic Hatstand party!
Thank you to everyone who helped make Friday such a brilliant night.
Thank you to all the DJs for the incredible music from start to finish. Thank you as well to the brilliant staff at Bomba, and to our super-friendly door staff who do their job so well. The room was full, the dance floor was bouncing, and the energy in the room was palpable for the entire party.
But the biggest thanks of all goes to every single one of you who comes and has a fantastic time with us at Magic Hatstand.
And one last thing — here’s a random act of kindness, typical of Hatstanders. There were no more online tickets available, and one of our regular Hatstanders had no cash on her but really wanted to come to the party. A very kind man stepped in and paid for her ticket. We would love to know who that was so we can give him a big thank you and a hug from Magic Hatstand.
