Washing Machine of Destiny

Washing Machine of Destiny A delightful, entertaining spin cycle of a play, with autistic imagination, humour, and experience.

10/04/2026

Whilst Luca is off to Central School Of Speech & Drama doing his theatre course in London and (still) being a star, do come and catch Philip in a quantum comedy for curious people. He says "I am very excited to be working/acting with Rose Reynolds (Netflix, RSC, BBC) to perform Simon Stephens' THE UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE". Premiering at Crediton Arts Centre Fri 24th + Sat 25th April. Directed by our very own Pippa Marriott no less. Touring living rooms and theatres later in the year.

🌀 The Washing Machine of Destiny: Still Spinning (Even if It’s Been a Bit Quiet Lately…) 🌀

It’s been a while since we last posted an update – but that’s not because nothing’s been happening. Quite the opposite!

We were planning to launch a brand-new show this year, but life, as it often does, reshuffled the schedule. So our next full production is now set for 2026. In the meantime, we’ve been throwing ourselves into some brilliant creative projects we’re really proud of. Here’s what we’ve been up to...

🎧 Soundscapes at Exeter College
Since spring, we’ve been running two inclusive theatre workshops with a teenage group at Exeter College.

With around 20 participants – mostly students, but some staff too – we’ve been co-creating a rich soundscape: voices, everyday sounds, music, and stories about stress, overwhelm, and how we cope. It’s heartfelt, expressive, and (in true Washing Machine of Destiny style) unexpectedly funny too.

🎬 Philip and Luca are editing the final piece over summer, and we’ll be premiering it this Autumn.

📚 ‘Other’ Stories with The Turning Tides Project CIC
Luca and I are thrilled to be part of “And ‘Other’ Stories”, a multi-artist project led by Turning Tides, focused on the lived experiences of disabled artists.

As part of this, we’ll be taking our workshop model into Pathfield Special School in Barnstaple this September, working with a younger age group to collect and make stories together. These creative pieces will join the And ‘Other’ Stories online archive, alongside work from other artists across Devon.

🎭 Back at Kairos College
We were also invited to return to Kairos College, near South Brent – part of the Breakthrough Transformation Trust, offering therapeutic education for neurodiverse young adults.

There, we ran a Forum Theatre workshop with students and staff. Together, we explored options when confronted by everyday challenges, specifically for those who are autistic.

Luca said:

“I really enjoyed meeting the group. I loved how passionate they were about the workshop. Acting out the scenes and trying different responses was so fun and useful – it helped all of us think in new ways.”

Phil added:

“Today we made theatre that will be useful for people to live better lives.”

📣 The End Is in the Beginning – New Page Alert!

Many of you already know about The End is in the Beginning – the duet Samuel Beckett show Philip is making with Sarah White.
We’re excited to share that the project now has its own page where you can follow its journey, development, and future tour plans.

👉 Give it a follow here: The End Is in the Beginning - The Beckett Omnibus

So while we’ve been quiet online, we’ve been deep in collaboration, creativity, and story-making. Thanks for sticking with us — and watch this space for more soon. 💙🌀

Please come and see Philip's current show he is touring, The End Is in the Beginning - The Beckett Omnibus! It's superb!

We were thrilled to have Washing Machine of Destiny's Luca Saunders come and watch our show The End Is in the Beginning - The Beckett Omnibus, and were very grateful to receive his powerful feedback:

“It was a very interesting performance, I really loved it. Some of the scenes I could really relate to. The one that sticks out in my mind is where the woman actor (Sarah) speaks very fast with just a torch lighting her mouth (it's an extract from Not I). For me it was describing what my neurodiverse mind is sometimes like. All of these 'difficult to make-out' thoughts flying into my head at 100mph, it can feel too much! Claustrophobic – not physically but mentally, trapped by my own thoughts. Definitely go and see this show, it’s intense, emotional, dreamlike but also laugh-out-loud funny.”

Thank you, Luca! It means a lot to get the thumbs up from such a talented young neurodivergent performer. We’re proud to bring The End Is in the Beginning to audiences of all ages — because we believe Beckett is for everyone.

Thank You for the Amazing Response to The End Is in the Beginning - The Beckett Omnibus 🎭

Philip and Sarah (and the production team) have been blown away by the excitement and support. Huge thanks to everyone who’s reached out, shared the news, and shown interest in this intimate celebration of Samuel Beckett’s work.

If you missed it, this new performance weaves together 16 of Beckett’s plays, prose, and poems, offering a fresh and immersive way to experience his language. Meet his unforgettable characters as they struggle to tell their stories—a moving, thought-provoking, and often darkly funny tribute to trying again, failing again, failing better.

Here’s where you can catch this show so far:

📍 Fri 4th April – Studios, Bath (Get your tickets here www.roseberryroadstudios.com/events-exhibitions/the-end-is-in-the-beginning-the-beckett-omnibus)

📍 Fri 2nd May – Crediton Arts Centre (Not yet on their website to book)

📍 Ashburton Arts Centre (Date in May tbc)

📍 Thurs 15th May – Bude Literary Festival

We’ll also be performing in living rooms, schools, and universities, creating truly up-close experiences of Beckett’s world. With other theatre venues in the talks too!

Could your living room be a theatre for the night? If you’ve got a space that can fit around 20 people, we’d love to bring the show to you. Living room theatre is a unique, intimate way to experience live performance—drop us a message if you’re interested in hosting!

The End Is in the Beginning - The Beckett Omnibus 🎭

A bicycle, a giant mouth, old boots, audience on stage, a bevvy of bananas, a mystery phone call, frantic clowning, beguiling stillness. The end is in the beginning, and yet you go on…

Living Room Theatre presents 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚, an intimate, two-hander remixing 13 of Samuel Beckett’s plays, prose, and poems. Featuring 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻 (The Washing Machine of Destiny) and 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 (Beyond Paradise, The Cull), this 80-minute collision of the comic and the tragic invites audiences into a Beckettian world of looping words, unraveling time, and familiar absurdities.

Whether you are stepping into Beckett’s work for the first time or tracing new echoes in well-worn lines, this is a performance to witness, to inhabit, to endure.

📢 Please note: This is not the second play by The Washing Machine of Destiny coming later this year—this is a separate encounter, a distinct brush with Beckett.

📍 Tour begins April – dates to follow soon.

Come. Wait. See.

🌱 Exciting News – We've teamed up with Squeeze Box! 🎭

We’re buzzing to be working with Squeeze Box after being successful on their Seed Commission funding for South-West Disabled Artists! 🙌

Who are Squeeze Box? They’re a powerhouse of creativity, a network of brilliant makers coming together to create something truly unique.

At the core of Squeeze Box is the incredible Hugh Malyon, who’s leading the way with his disability inclusive artistic vision. Their whole vibe is about diving deep into what it means to be human, growing together and creating as a collective. Through performances, installations, and workshops, they open up conversations around disability and arts.

We can’t wait to see where this collaboration takes us and how it will shape our new play. Special thanks to Hugh & Jen from Squeeze Box for giving us their feedback and provocations on seeing our new ideas . Let’s make something incredible together! 🚀

🌌✨ STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT (…or something equally wild!) ✨🌌

Or maybe it’ll be…
THE RHYTHMETIC DANCING IN THE TWILIGHT HOURS
THE NIGHT OF A THOUSAND BRAINS
PEOPLE GLOWING IN THE DARK
TIME, THE PAST & BLACK HOLES

The truth is, the final title for our brand-new show is still swirling in the creative ether. Whatever we land on, you can count on it being bold, bonkers, and brilliant – just like the show itself!

This time, we’re cranking up the chaos by teaming up with the Midnight Symphony Orchestra – and guess what? That includes YOU! Luca’s dream is to hand out instruments to the audience so you can help us create a wild, improvised live soundtrack for key scenes. Imagine the energy, the spontaneity, and the absolute madness of a soundtrack made in the moment – it’s going to be unforgettable. 🎶

A massive thank you to the amazing people who’ve supported us in the early development of our brand new play:
💫 Malyon & Squeeze Box
💫 Exeter Northcott’s Elevate Programme
💫 Clark
💫 Crediton Arts Centre
💫 Recovery Devon

You’ve been the stars lighting our way, and we can’t wait to share this with everyone in the New Year. Stay tuned as we reveal more in January!

See you in 2025! 🙏💖

🎄🎭 Philip and Luca Take Over Santa’s Workshop… BIG NEWS ALERT! 🎁✨

The elves at The Washing Machine of Destiny workshop have had some help this year… or at least Philip and Luca think they’re helping! While Santa’s elves are busy making toys, these two have been playing with props, puppets, and a whole lot of ideas for our next big adventure.

✨ That’s right – A BRAND-NEW PLAY IS ON THE WAY! ✨

We can’t spill all the secrets just yet, but trust us – it’s going to be packed with surprises, drama, and a healthy dose of holiday spirit (and probably some of the chaos you’ve come to expect from these two).

Think of it as a gift you’ll unwrap in 2025 – something fresh, exciting, and full of heart. Until then, enjoy our little sneak preview dropping tomorrow morning and stay tuned for more updates in the New Year. Big things are coming!
