Something a little different from my usual subjects , I have always admired the old figure paintings by the masters , I find figure painting more challenging and less forgiving than landscapes but they can be very rewarding .
I am pleased with this one and I plan to paint a few more.

Im not sure if its a coincidence but I started this quite large painting a while ago , with after sadly losing our dog Jess only yesterday, I appreciate this picture now that its finished and the theme even more.
The old man having a nap and his dog very relaxed but still keeping watch.

This one is a master study of one of my fav old landscape painters and Master Peder Monsted , I have finally got round to finishing this after 6 months of a bit of work here and there .
Its turned out ok not as good as the original but good enough for me to hang on my wall. Its a large painting and the biggest landscape i have painted to date, large paintings are a lot of work and its easy to lose interest with such a time consuming painting, this was annoying me being unfinished but glad its done.
I love so many of Monsteds paintings and in this one the morning light and shade and the beech trees . Monsted was a master at all aspects of landscape and in particular his trees .

Small paintings are so nice but the smaller the painting the smaller the details, it def gets a little tricky communicating such fine details as tiny flowers, but im happy with this one .

These are no.1 and 2 in the new series of coastal scenes i will be painting , I was looking forward to starting this series , theres nothing like the sea air ,the waves ,sand and dunes and of course a few sea gulls .
These two are similar and would go very well as a pair . 30cm x 20cm oil on board
