Artist of the Day today is the very talented Samantha Millington-Ringwood, an established, contemporary mixed-media painter and semi-retired art teacher based in Emsworth, Hampshire.

She grew up near Bath and studied Fine Art at the University of Plymouth.
Her atmospheric landscape and seascape paintings are heavily influenced by legendary artists J.M.W. Turner and Mark Rothko.

Her signature multi-layered style combines gold leaf, ink, and acrylic paint.
She focuses on capturing memory, nostalgia, and the shifting dynamics of natural light, colour, and texture of the local landscape.
Her principal inspiration comes from her local travels, Chichester Harbour, and the South Downs National Park.

She is a long-standing exhibitor in Emsworth and her artwork is also regularly showcased across major regional exhibitions and local hubs, including the Oxmarket Contemporary Gallery in Chichester, The Art Works Studio at Bosham Walk, and the Spring Arts & Heritage Centre in Havant.

3 weeks to go.., and today, we have Penny McDougall, an Emsworth artist who works with glass to create pieces inspired by our beautiful harbour and local countryside. Many of her designs reflect the movement and the colours of the sea and seasons.

She first saw glass art being created when her parents took her to Venice when she was a child;
'Watching the street glass blowers was mesmerising, I was fascinated by the colours and fluidity of the molten glass.
I never imagined that many years later I would be creating my own glass designs.'

A proud Nightingale Nurse, I have spent nearly 40 years working for the NHS both locally and in London.
She now has time to indulge in her passion for glass and producing some stunning pieces.

Next Artist is the lovely Bea Veness, I'll let her explain how she creates her artwork...

'I did a Fine Art degree at Chichester – graduating in 2012. I soon realised that all I really wanted to do was printmaking, and so that's what I am – a printmaker.

I use screenprinting, sometimes with the addition of linocut, occasionally adding graphite or wax.

Colour and form predominate in my work, and subjects include sea and landscapes and still life. I make initial drawings and then play around with these to suit the printmaking medium. I also use shorthand converted from linear to 2D to create semi-abstract compositions.'

Bea also works with light and shadow, making a 3d form and using the shadows cast, cleverly transferring the image to 2D, giving some stunning contrast images.
