This is wonderful news about Mr Wilson, who was Graduate Organ Scholar at Ely Cathedral from 2021-2023.

🏆 Young Church Musician Award 🏆

We are thrilled that our own Organist and Master of Music, Mr Jack Wilson, has been announced as an inaugural recipient of the new Royal School of Church Music Young Church Musician Award!

This award seeks to recognise young church musicians who are making a significant contribution to the flourishing of church music in their context, establishing their own role and voice within the church music sector and for whom being an advocate for the role of music within worship is a visible and feature of their life.

When asked about the news, Jack commented ‘I am very grateful to be amongst the first group of young church musicians who are recipients of this new award from the RSCM. I see music as one of the true pillars on which Belfast Cathedral stands, and I, alongside my wonderful and supportive colleagues in the music department, want to ensure that the fruits of our skills are shared with all those who venture inside this truly special building. We all look forward to building on this legacy and cementing the foundations already laid for a happy, prosperous, and musical future!’.

The boys and lay clerks are in Norway, where it would seem the weather is not quite as nice as it is in Ely.... Nonetheless, they are having a great time, and we will keep you all up to date with their tour. If you are one of our followers in Norway, do go and hear them sing!

Our Ely Cathedral Boy Choristers set off on their eagerly-anticipated 2026 Norway Tour this morning (July 3rd)! 🎶

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Ely Cathedral Boys' Choir Tour Fund in some way. Tours like this not only promote The Choristers of Ely Cathedral Choir and their high standards of music-making, but they also raise the profile of Ely and its magnificent Cathedral internationally.

Talking of tour fundraising, a Charity Cricket Match is being held in Ely this Saturday (July 4th) in aid of the fund! 🏏

Today we said goodbye to this fabulous group of leaving choristers and sixth form choral scholars. We are so grateful for everything that they have done to contribute to the music at Ely Cathedral over the years that they have sung with us. Good luck to you all and “just keep singing!”

This was a lovely evening!

Our beautiful Chapel in the Old Palace echoed with the magnificent sounds of the organ this week when it hosted the annual 'Bombarde of Organists' concert! 🎶

This year's event showcased the exceptional talents of five of our young organists, spanning the ages of 11 to 17.

The evening began with a captivating performance by our youngest organist, Izzy (Year 6), who demonstrated impressive confidence and technical skill on the complex instrument. Freddie (Year 8 ) then took to the organ, delivering a mature performance which filled the Chapel's resonant space impeccably! 🙌🏼

The depth of talent in the Senior School was firmly on display with seamless consecutive recitals from Samuel and Lukasz, who are both in Year 9. They tackled demanding pieces with precision and artistic flair, highlighting the bright future of organ music here at King's.

Bringing the evening to a spectacular close was Thomas (Year 12), who is our Organ Scholar. His advanced command of the instrument and expressive registration choices provided a fitting finale to a wonderful celebration of live music! 👏🏽
