Latest item out of my workshop - a long wheelbase Bristol LHS as purchased by Cardiff Bus from London Country to use with their own small fleet of shorties. Four were purchased in total but they didn't last long before being sold on, presumably after MCW Metrorider "Clipper" buses started to take over their routes/

Latest addition to the Spriggs Lane bus fleet is this Bristol LHS. Cardiff ordered 2 of these new and also had four second hand. They didn't seem to last long in the fleet, their work rapidly taken over by Clippers.

This is a 3D print designed and printed by me and I do think it's a rather nice thing!

Still printing buses.
Sorry, its been a bit of a wormhole, and it seems to be making a lot of people quite happy so 🤷‍♂️
Anyhow. Latest on the workbench / emerging from the resin vat is an ex-Tayside Bristol VR.
Also undergoing a bit of finishing are the Manchester Ailsas and the Cardiff open top VR.
I will get back to trains at some point.
The Cardiff Bristol and Ailsa kits are available now on eBay if anyone wants one.

Probably should so some actual railway stuff at some point, but I've gone down a bit of a 3d printing wormhole with the buses!
One of the customers of my Ailsa kit asked if I was going to produce the Manchester variants... so after a bit of research I have done so, just because!
Also, I decided as a bit of a technical test to see if I could do the open top version of the VRs used in Cardiff - I'm not entirely sure what business an open top tour bus would have at Spriggs Lane. I suppose it makes it easier to get the numbers of the locos on the far road... 🤣

And my second blatant plug... similarly the SECOND JMH Engineering kit, this time for the Volvo Ailsa, is now on ebay as well! https://ebay.us/m/EZ2jnY

Blatant plug... if you liked my Bristol VR the very first JMH Engineering kit is now on ebay... https://ebay.us/m/daA6dd

First of the Ailsas finished! I don't think it's half bad for a first attempt at 3d printing!

Well, a couple of weeks effort nearly come to fruition!

Just needing glazing and some minor paint detail, a mini-fleet of 1980s buses sits on my workbench. Two are destined for Spriggs Lane and two a commission.

I am quite happy to knock these out as a kit (unpainted!) if anyone is interested, comes complete with glazing (except front windscreen), transfers and vinyls for destination blinds. Drop me a message through messenger and I will put a listing up on eBay for you.

Carrying on the buses... I now have a Bristol VR produced as well. I've also been pushing the boundaries of possibilities with the printer, and have managed to run off badges for both that are too small for me to read with the naked eye.

Not quite sure how I am going to paint or fit them but they look nice 🤣🤣🤣

So, as I am incapable of focusing on one project, I have been fiddling with more Buses for Spriggs Lane. In the 90s I used to get the service bus to school and an additional bus was laid on to get us home. These were usually older double deckers from Cardiff's extensive fleet of Bristol VR and Volvo Ailsa. I knew nothing about buses, and nor did I particularly care, but a great friend of mine was involved in the bus preservation scene and actually owned one of each!
Nobody makes the Cardiff version of either of these... so after a bit of work I have got a workable basis for an Ailsa, modelled in 3D CAD and printed by yours truly! Still some work to do to get the prints right, but I'm pleased for a first effort in 3D printing!

Well that didn't last long. I was going to leave the base as was, blah blah blah. Didn't look right. Also I'd have needed to plug the holes in the top of the 86 bodyshells.

New outer frames have been fabricated from brass channel and then affixed to a trimmed down centre frame from the original pan, which means that I get to keep the original lower arm pivot point and crank attachment. Looks a whole lot better now in my eyes.

I just need to make another 4 or 5 so that I have spares in stock. Also got the insulators and switchgear sorted though, the original Hornby moulded parts actually look pretty good and pretty accurate with a bit of paint on!

I've not had time for any updates recently, lots of work and family stuff going on.
However, the 86 and 87 fleet is finished, with the exception of roof fittings.
Also started on pantographs, given up on the 3d printed ones and going back to scratchbuilding pan heads...
