The Priory Players

Drama group in Eltham SE9, open to all. We explore all aspects of theatre, promote the arts, and support good causes in the local community. Established 1965.

The Priory Players are a friendly group, open to anybody interested in amateur dramatics. All our members ‘muck in’ to do all the jobs involved in putting on plays – from acting on the stage, helping out behind the scenes, set-building, painting, running the box-office to operating the stage lighting during the shows, whatever aspect of theatre you are interested in, we can offer you the opportuni

ty to try your hand. We meet every Tuesday at the Progress Hall from 8.00pm to 10.00pm and anybody who is interested in coming along one evening to see what we get up to is most welcome. We put on three productions a year in May, October and our pantomime in January. Most of our pantomimes differ from the traditional pantos that other bigger theatres produce but still with a fairytale theme and lots of opportunity for audience participation (voluntary of course!). We try to appeal to the widest age range and the emphasis is always on fun and laughter. For our other two productions we try to find plays which challenge both the audience and cast, these may be straight or comedy but tend towards contemporary drama. The hall is situated just off Well Hall Road, Eltham SE9 1SL and is a 5 minute walk from Eltham train station, various bus routes also stop nearby. If you are coming by car there is ample parking outside the hall or in the surrounding roads.

Who is Anne?...

A subject? A tree? A non-smoker? A polaroid picture? A scream? An automatic pistol? A treadle sewing machine? A mother? A daughter? Who lives alone? The new Anny comes with passenger's airbag as standard. A terrorist? An artist? Who works alone? Annushka? A peasant come to clean rich people's toilets? A refugee? The girl next door? A wife? Who sleeps alone? A killer? A victim? A character in a play? An object?

In 17 scenes for theatre and multi-media, we attempt to find out. Like nothing you've seen before… prepare to discover the truth of Anne.

Who is Anne?…

Martin Crimp's "postmodernist masterpiece" tries to find the identity of a missing woman. Seventeen fragments shine a spotlight on culture, war, media, consumerism, s*x, and truth in the modern world.

Nameless characters and shifting settings attempt to piece Anne together, or tear her apart. Anne is a mother, a movie star, and messages on an answerphone, a camera subject and object for sale, an art installation and an international terrorist, a fact, a mystery, and a fiction.

Like nothing you've seen before… prepare to discover the truth of Anne.

War Of The Worlds: A Radio Play

This thrilling new adaptation is presented on the stage by our ensemble cast and brought to life with live foley sound effects, just like Orson Welles’ famous broadcast on CBS radio.

So close your eyes, tune out the busy modern world, and travel back in time with us over 100 years to a world almost like our own. Tonight, the celebrated author Miss Helena Wells recounts her father’s adventures during the Martian invasion all those years ago.

Witness the calamity unfold, hear the stories of ordinary folk, and tremble at the terrifying Martian fighting machines and their heat ray!
