Saturday 5 – 248/365
Tiramisu

While wandering a woodland path
My sense desserted me
For I came across a tiramisu
Stuck fast upon a tree

Tempted by a creamy lunch
I recomposed my thoughts
For bracket fungi are not as tasty
As the Italian dessert sort.

Archetype

Architectural wizardry,
arches and their alchemy:
not merely in the weight they hold,
but in the emptiness they fold.

Friday 4 – 247/365
Fuchsia Shock

I do like me a fuchsia bush
With pendant flowers just right
All leafy green and gaudy
You just know the fuchsia's bright.

Thursday 3 – 246/365
Buddleia of Suburbia

In most of our towns
In horticultural borders
And everywhere else
Where its seed brings new order
The buddleia rises
Our butterfly bushes
Ornamental, rapacious
A plant of mixed uses
In old medicinal lore
For inflammation too
Now visited by Red Admirals
Old potential, unused.

Wednesday 2 – 245/365
Crabby

Bounteous yet scorned,
A Malus, bitter and dry,
Quite far from the fruit
Of Eden’s temptation,
And now passed by at harvest,
Though I wonder why?
For a crab apple jelly
Is a wonderful thing,
And added into cider
Brings acid and sting.
Yet people are now
So divorced from home crafts,
It’s consigned to the hedgerow,
Removed from its past.

Love this short sample. I've been thinking about what makes poetry, lyrics and the rhythm of our language. And how our language 'moves over time'

Great stuff.

Time to give this one an airing again... On the theme of "blowing your socks off"... It still makes me smile 😊👍

Classic Cars

Ah, what lineage!
What elegance!, what fine lines!
The Mk7 Golf
A classic of its time...

The Type 2 Kombi
Archetype of old, temperamental
And air-cooled
But still, automotive gold.

The incredible reliability
The power of the brand
The VW roundel
Unchanged, still grand.

A grandfather and grandson
We'll not see their like again...
Internal combustion,
Petrol in their veins.

Now lost to electric,
With the style of white goods.
From Golf back to Kombi,
When driving was good.

Tuesday 1 – 244/365
Mountain Mash

The mountain ash
By the cricket field
Confused me
With its berry yield
For red and white
Both seem to be
Sprouting from
The same rowan tree
I think of my time
In genetic research
Meristem mutations?
Possibly…
It’s not the tree
It was when born
A mosaic now
Of altered form
Red and white
It simply grows
I need the answer.
The rowan knows.
