Staff forced to evacuate shoppers from their own supermarket β€” because of a knife rampage in the drinks aisle.

These are ordinary people just showing up to work. Britain's everyday spaces β€” the supermarket, the high street, the town centre β€” should not be places where workers are fearing for their lives.

When this keeps happening, the question isn't whether people are right to be angry. The question is whether those responsible for public safety are actually taking it seriously.

Someone needs to answer for why the system keeps letting ordinary people down.

Is your home about to cost you more?
Council tax is already one of the heaviest bills ordinary households carry β€” and a proposed new land tax could add hundreds of pounds a year on top, hitting people in modest homes just as hard as anyone else.
The idea is it could fund public services and eventually replace other taxes, but there's a real question about whether that trade-off would ever actually materialise for working families.
Would you back a land tax if it genuinely scrapped council tax β€” or is it just another bill with a different name?

Should kids really be banned from social media β€” or is this just the government making life harder for everyone else in the process?

Most parents want their children safer online, but this wouldn't just affect under-16s β€” every adult in Britain would have to hand over photo ID to some age verification company just to log into their own accounts.

That's your personal documents going to a firm you've never heard of, with no guarantee of where they end up or who sees them.

Keeping kids safe is one thing β€” but does this cross a line for the rest of us?

Another sweltering night and absolutely zero chance of sleeping.

British homes were designed to trap heat β€” perfect in November, a nightmare in July. The rest of Europe has thick stone walls, shutters, and air conditioning built in as standard.

We've got a Β£12 fan from Argos, a wet flannel, and the faint hope of a breeze through the window at 3am β€” genuinely curious what's actually working for people this week.

The UK spends 25 times more on benefits for young people than it does on getting them into work.
That's not because young people don't want jobs β€” it's because the jobs simply aren't there.
Training schemes hand out certificates for roles that no longer exist, while a generation quietly waits for an economy that's moved on without them.
At some point, are we building a ladder β€” or just paying people to stand at the bottom of one?

When did going to a wedding start costing close to a grand?

Travel, hotel, outfit, childcare, stag or hen weekend, cash gift because "we don't want presents" β€” it all adds up fast, and that's before you've bought a drink at the bar. For a lot of people right now, the invitation is the easy part.

The old local do in a community hall, everyone from the same town, a buffet and a free bar β€” nobody went home out of pocket and somehow the memories were better for it.

Genuinely curious whether people still look forward to them the way they used to, or whether it's quietly become something people dread.

Are we too soft at bedtime now β€” or have things just changed?

Most of us were put to bed with a story and a goodnight kiss, and that was that. Somewhere along the way, bedtime became a whole production, and sitting in the dark until they finally drifted off turned into the expected standard.

There's nothing wrong with doing what works β€” but it does make you wonder whether we've made the whole thing harder than it needs to be, for parents and kids alike.

Did your upbringing shape how you handle bedtime, or did you end up doing it completely differently?

When did getting a proper fish and chips become this difficult?
There used to be a real chippy on every high street β€” thick battered cod, proper chunky chips, wrapped in paper and steaming all the way home.
Half of them have gone now, replaced by hybrid shops serving frozen breaded fillets and calling it the same thing at the same price.
Has your local still got it right, or has the proper chippy disappeared from your area too?

WAS YOUR PARENTS’ ADVICE WRONG?
So many of us grew up treating old household rules like gospel.
Then one day you realise half of it was just outdated advice passed down as fact.
What was the most confidently wrong thing you were told at home?

IS THIS JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS?

A court sentence has left many people asking the same thing: where is the balance between rehabilitation and punishment when the harm is this serious.

For families and victims, trust in the system depends on sentences that feel fair, clear, and serious enough.

Should youth justice ever look this soft in a case like this?
