Our final artist spotlight as part of our Decade of Detail exhibition is on Olivia Turner. As well as hosting a solo exhibition of her work in the Gallery in 2024, Olivia and I have worked together in various capacities over the years, so it only felt right to invite her to exhibit with us for our 10 Year celebrations!

Primarily a painter, Olivia shifted into three-dimensional work three years ago, allowing her to explore architectural forms in a new way. Her work continues to draw inspiration from Brutalist and Modernist architecture, distilling architectural elements and presenting them in a new light.

Not only do we love Rhona Taylor's work, but she has also been a great friend and support over the years. We first exhibited Rhona's work in 2023, and I am so pleased she has included a piece in our Decade of Detail exhibition!

Originally from London, Rhona is an Edinburgh-based artist who makes abstract work – paintings, drawings, sculptures, screenprints and installations – using colour, light, pattern and repetition. Her work often looks very precise, but she likes to embrace and respond to unpredictable outcomes.

Next up in our Decade of Detail highlights, we have the incredible Rowan Paton, an award-winning painter and dear friend of Detail 💛 We're thrilled Rowan has included two works as part of our 10 Year Exhibition!

Working across painting, collage, and printmaking, she creates visual worlds that are both imagined and intimately connected to her lived experience. Rowan's final images reflect the shifting dialogue between the vastness of the natural world, her immediate surroundings and objects she shares her life with, and her desire to create painted contexts to be absorbed by, and disappear into.

Today we’re highlighting this gorgeous piece by Ellis O’Connor which is currently on display as part of our Decade of Detail exhibition 🖼

Ellis is a Contemporary Landscape Artist from Scotland working in the field of painting and drawing who first displayed work with us in 2023.

The dynamic energy to be seen in the paintings are Ellis’ response to observed changes in the landscape; ‘the movement and rhythms of the sea and the land … the merging of sea with air, advancing rain and mist, ever changing light - elements that seem to be about something intangible.’

It was only fitting that we included Ruth Nicol's work in our 10 Year Exhibition. Ruth has been a great support - both on a professional and personal level - since day one, and I am thrilled she is displaying this fantastic work as part of our celebrations.

Originally from Glasgow and now living in Leith, Ruth is known as one of the foremost Scottish landscape artists working in Europe today.

Today we're highlighting these two lovely works by Martyn McKenzie, currently on display as part of our Decade of Detail exhibition. 🖼

Martyn is an artist and musician based in Glasgow. He cites his experience of growing up in Inverclyde as the foundation of his artistic perspective, where the remnants of industry coexist with the raw natural landscape. Martyn exhibited as part of one of our very first exhibitions in the Gallery in 2023, and we're delighted to welcome him back!

Kenris MacLeod has a long history with Detail. Alongside displaying work in the gallery, she also worked with us for a period of time. It only felt right to ask her to include one of her wonderful pieces as part of our 10 year exhibition - and we are thrilled she said yes!

Kenris is a textile artist who lives and works in Edinburgh, whose work uses the medium of freehand machine embroidery in an attempt to describe the textures and complexity of the natural world – specifically trees and skies. Using the sewing machine needle as a pencil or brush, Kenris sews complex designs that combine repetitive forms and organic, abstract shapes with elemental natural imagery, seeking to connect us to our ancient roots and tapping into a memory that is almost, but not quite, lost.

We are very excited to have three gorgeous ceramics by Hazel Frost on display as part of our 10th birthday exhibition - who first displayed work with us in 2023.

Hazel Frost is a ceramic and installation artist whose work transforms vessels, organic remnants, ice, clay, and archival systems into meditations on ecological grief, rupture, preservation, and return. Rooted in still life, Vanitas painting, and material transformation, her work considers what is carried, altered, lost, and left behind.
