SewGallus is a combination of 2 of my favourite words, 'sew' as i am a maker at heart, I need to be making always. And 'Gallus' which is a scots word, something i was often called as a child, it describes someone who is a bit bold with a sprinkling of cheek added. I do feel we need to be more of in our lives!
My name is Cerri, I've been teaching for about 6 years now and i would love to invite you to my fabulous studio in the West of Edinburgh in Riverside House Artists, newly renovated by Wasps Artists Studios. With 20 years sewing experience, from studying in Glasgow to working in Tv/film. When I'm not teaching I'm working on my own designs i sell in Edinburgh and collaborating with independent shops keeping vintage clothes alive and in circulation, this is incredibly important to me, as i often see how much waste is created in the clothing industry! Our next artist is Marnie Sanderson .s.artwork

Marnie is a textile and print making artist with qualifications in Textiles from Edinburgh College. With influences from everyday life and a focus on texture and pattern, her work is developed from loose sketches and different mark making techniques.

See her work and others at our Open Studios event this Saturday 15 Nov, 11am to 6pm. Over 40 artists will be opening their studios up for you to explore. Workshops/demonstrations will also be available for you to participate, as well as the chance to buy our work.

Today we show you some of Fiona Davidson’s oil paintings and drawings.



Fiona enjoys painting outdoors, studio landscapes and flowers, hoping to share a sense of how she sees the world around her. Her muted, ethereal landscapes evoke a sense of mystery in calmness, whilst subtly hinting at hidden layers of drama, echoing the layered aspects of our personalities that we present to the world.

Fiona will be showing her studio and selling her work at our Open Studios event this Saturday - 15th November. Come along and explore over 40 artists work.

Beautiful work by Lorna Fraser!! 😍

Lorna works with porcelain clay, combining traditional hand-built and industrial mould-making techniques to create unique one-off pieces, small series of works and site-specific installations.

The infinite array of forms in the botanical world continue to fascinate Lorna - her work explores the sculptural quality of plants, responding to their structure while selecting favourite composite shapes in order to create her own porcelain ‘hybrids’.

If you’d like see her work in person and maybe buy a piece to take home or gift, come along to our Open Studios event this Saturday 15th November. Over 40 artists are taking part, allowing you to explore their studios and buy their work. Demonstrations and workshops will also be taking place throughout the day.

Happy Monday! We kick off this week with Libby Mitchell 🥳

Libby Mitchell is a multidisciplinary landscape artist, taking inspiration for her Art from her travels in New Zealand and her time working as a landscaper in Northland. She captures the sense of serenity within immersive landscapes, bush-scenes and wildlife through colourful paintings, intricate charcoals with homemade materials and thought provoking photography and installations.

Libby will be selling a selection of homemade art materials at our Open Studios event on Saturday 15 November. She will also be selling prints of works painted with botanical inks and photos of plant sculptures made during her Shetland Artist Residency

Libby will also be running a drop-in class from her studio (608 on Level 6) where people have the opportunity to experiment with homemade inks.
