Lovely to be featured in CashBack for Communities most recent partner spotlight ✨

In this blog, they highlight Mums in Focus: Our Stories, an art exhibition offering an intimate glimpse into the joys and challenges of parenthood, told be the parents of the Cashback for Young Parents Project.

Through weekly creative play sessions with artists Roz McAndrew and Kirstin Abraham, families explored photography, poetry, music and art. Using disposable cameras, parents and children captured the people, places and everyday moments that are important to them and their communities. Families also created acrostic poems which were transformed into original songs by artist Claire Docherty.

Supported by CashBack for Communities, the CashBack for Young Parents programme is delivered by Starcatchers and Fife Gingerbread

✨ Help shape Young Audiences Network Scotland (YANS)

YANS is looking for artists and practitioners to join our new Access Panel and Advisory Group, helping us build a connected, open and representative network for those making work for babies, children and young people across Scotland.

We particularly welcome people who are disabled, d/Deaf, neurodiverse, from Black and Global Majority backgrounds, and from the LGBTIQA+ community. Freelance representatives will be paid for their time.

So proud of our Expecting Something group 🥰

What a wonderful moment seeing some of our Expecting Something families on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Community Stage, sharing their creativity and absolutely shining ⭐️

Musician Todd Henkin brought together our Expecting Something mums and dads with the families at Dads Rock to share music, stories and a few tips for the journey into parenthood 🎶

The group rewrote Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” as “Mum You Need”, which went down a storm, with the crowd joining in. It was lovely to see dad Peter playing the trombone while parents and wee ones sang along. And 8-year-old Lilly, who came to Expecting Something as a baby, stole the show! 🥰

It takes a lot to get up on stage and perform, especially during the Fringe! We couldn’t be prouder of our Expecting Something families! ❤️

While Float didn’t take home the The List Festival Award for Fringe: Best Kids, we’re incredibly proud to have been shortlisted alongside such an amazing line-up of work at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. A huge congratulations to Marc Brew Company Boys Don't Dance ❤️

To have Float, a show made especially for babies and families, recognised in this way means so much to the whole team.

We’re delighted to announce that Starcatchers' Expecting Something project has received funding from the Scottish Children's Lottery 🎉

This will help us continue creating joyful, welcoming spaces where babies, toddlers and their grown-ups can play, explore and get creative together in Wester Hailes.

Led by artist Katy Wilson, Expecting Something brings families together through creative play, movement, music, messy making and plenty of opportunities for little ones and their grown-ups to discover new things side by side.

For families, it’s about more than creative activities, it’s a chance to connect, build confidence, have fun and share special moments together.

A huge thank you to the Scottish Children’s Lottery for supporting this work and helping us bring more creative opportunities to babies, toddlers and families in Wester Hailes.

⭐️ Calling all artists and makers ⭐️

Lyra’s Thursday Young Artists are looking to commission an experienced Lead Artist to create a new live performance work for the 2027 Bright & Wild Festival.

They’re open to artists from any live performance background, including dance, parkour, music, circus, installation, theatre, storytelling, live art, moving image and more.

Bright & Wild is an annual festival with children and young people at its heart, celebrating new work commissioned by and created in collaboration with Lyra’s Young Artists groups.
