We are a young, evolving not-for-profit organisation formed in 2012 in Scotland and overseen by a board of Trustees. Our small but dedicated team led by Chairman and Founder Roddy Gow OBE, former chief executive of Asia House, convened around a core set of beliefs. Epoch-making shifts of economic and demographic power from West to East demand ever greater engagement with Asia – commercially and cu

lturally. We urgently need to educate Tomorrow’s Leaders in Scotland by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to prosper in Asia. We must make this a national priority to effectively compete for Asian business and investment. We must continue our long tradition of welcoming the people of Asia to Scotland in order to enrich our national life. We must reignite that expeditionary spirit within the Scots’ DNA that propelled previous generations to Asia to achieve extraordinary things.

Thanks to Virgin Atlantic, LeapFrog Investments and University of Edinburgh Business School, Asia Scotland Institute is delighted to welcome Vikram Singh Mehta, Executive Chairman of Brookings India and a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Mr Mehta is a former Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in India. He received Asia House's "Businessmen of the Year" award in 2010. He writes regular columns in the Indian Express and the Financial Express. A networking reception will follow his talk.

Mr Mehta's visit is timely, coming just a few weeks after India's historic parliamentary election which saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) score an absolute majority for the first time.

India's new prime minster, Narendra Modi, has vowed to accelerate economic growth and promised Indians that "good times are coming".

Vikram Singh Mehta's 20 June presentation is titled: “India’s Election. The BJP’s landslide – A Seismic Change or More of the Same? A detailed analysis of the prospects for business and investors in the new environment.”

Don't forget to sign up for the event if you're in Edinburgh this week !
