Good Day, Sunshine premiered at Sheffield Theater’s Open Works Festival September 28th to a packed house. It was an honor to have the show’s inception start in a sanctuary city with such a rich history of activism in workers rights and immigrant justice. Ultimately Good Day, Sunshine asks what we owe each other as human beings sharing a planet together, how much must our hearts break to love across borders, through relentless suffering. One woman bikes across Brooklyn to deliver scones on Valentine’s Day while she unravels in her fight to remain a hopeful beacon of light in an ever darkening world. How can we each be brave enough to be that light for ourselves and for each other?

Thank you to Deborah Dickinson for bringing this show before an audience. Thank you to the staff and crew of Sheffield Theater for hosting us and to all the artists in the festival who made Open Works a smashing success.

We’re excited to bring this show out into the world finally.
There was a synchronous message in Chani NIcholas’s horoscope reading for this week that aligns with the play: “This is an invitation to remember the power of our inner lives, our inner work, the inner alchemical transformations that are possible when we dedicate ourselves, not to our own healing as separate from the world’s healing, but when we acknowledge and remember that our own healing is as important, is equal to the work we do to affect change in the world.”

Valentine’s Day, New York City. A woman bikes across town delivering scones for a fundraiser, wearing a giant sun costume and trying—desperately—to stay hopeful.

Phone calls to NGO employers go unanswered. Sirens blur into drumbeats. Delirium tears at reality as she is haunted by Kurt Vonnegut and Simone de Beauvoir. Protest marches, hunger, police violence, and censored news of a distant genocide seep into every interaction. As the day unravels, delivery after delivery, acts of care collide with exhaustion, love with paralysis, and devotion to the cause with self-erasure.

Driven by a percussive score and dark humour, Good Day, Sunshineis a fierce new solo performance from a frontline American activist, and one of New York’s most daring monologists about moral urgency, burnout, and loving strangers — one human gesture at a time.
