Lovely 4 star review from
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Set during the finalisation of Julia and Dan’s divorce, Bye Bye Baby is a witty drama that is laugh out loud funny 90% of the time and punch-to-the-gut serious the other 10%. The cast are all excellent and the script is well paced and smartly written. Despite the subject matter this show manages not to fall into the trap of being overly soap opera-ish and instead is a tight, engaging and entertaining piece of writing, well executed and directed.
Much like in the real world of marriage and divorce, the issues between the couple are nuanced and the resolution not straightforward. It is a mature and intelligent handling of the subject, peppered with enough humour and bittersweet moments to avoid it dragging. If you are looking for an interesting, original piece of theatre at this year’s festival this is a great pick.
