This Sunday, we will gather for a joyful service that will include an adult baptism and confirmation.

We will think about Jesus’ compassion for those who are “harassed and helpless,” and on his call to make the kingdom of heaven visible through faith and action.

At a time when many people feel fearful or unwelcome, we will affirm again that the way of Christ is compassion, that all are invited to find belonging in the household of God, and that with God's help, through us, the Kingdom of Heaven will be seen.

This week, we have watched events in Belfast and Glasgow with grief and concern.

We join with the Church of Scotland in praying for the victim of the knife attack in Belfast, for their family and friends, and for the wider community affected by fear and violence.

We also want to say clearly that intimidation, racism, and hostility towards minority communities, immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers have no place in our society, and no place in the way of Christ. Jesus calls us to love our neighbour and to welcome the stranger.

At New Town Church, we seek to be an open, welcoming, and global church. In moments like this, those words must mean more than sentiment. They must become compassion, courage, and practical solidarity.

All our neighbours should be able to feel safe, welcome, and at home.

Christ sees those who are harassed and helpless, and his response is compassion.

May ours be the same.

May we stand against hatred, refuse fear, and recognise every person as beloved of God.

This Sunday!

Support our magnificent Young Singers next Sunday (31 May), joined by a Small SCO Ensemble, as they step into the charged and emotional world of Monteverdi’s Madrigals of Love and War in an intimate late-afternoon concert at Edinburgh New Town Church.

The Undercroft Cafe re-opens on Monday 1st June but if you can't wait until then we are serving tea and scones under the portico! See you tomorrow!

The Undercroft Cafe remains closed for a few more days while the Gents toilets get a much needed refurb! We will be re-opening on Monday 1st June and look forward to seeing you all then.

Today we served tea and scones under the portico and will be doing the same again tomorrow (Wednesday 27th May) so come and sit in the sunshine with us. All proceeds going to Christian Aid Sale - Edinburgh.
