A little bit sad that the summer holidays are nearly over. This has been my favourite one yet.

Not working full time has allowed for a proper summer with the kids, (so much) football, UK holidays seeing family, lots of sunshine, paddling pools and car journeys with the radio turned up loud.

I've squeezed little moments of painting in between it all, and I'm itching to get back to it now.

This painting is one I've decided to leave unfinished. Inspired by the Chinese concept of liubai and negative space, the intentional use of empty space, I'm interested in what happens when we resist the urge to fill every space, resolve every mark, finish every thought.

It reminds me of lighting design and gestalt psychology, when areas are intentionally left in shadow to create the flow through space.

Although I'm going back to the studio with a slightly battered ego, having been comprehensively schooled at football by both boys, and banned from singing along to the radio.

Here's to the next season.🍂✨
