Action shots x 4!

Winding down/winding up time for all of us….

Preparing for an exhibition always brings many things…a lot of mess,
tension, running out of titanium white,
multiple trips to the framers, angst, asking family members and friends for frame colour opinions (when you already know what colour you’ve decided on), drinking margaritas with new pal who makes the most delicious edible works of art in pie form.
Etc etc.
Then again, maybe that’s just me… (Gill)😁

Hey! Last of the intros for our Converge Exhibition. I'm Kirstin Kirstin Heggie and I'll be showing a selection of my paintings along with Fee Dickson Reid Artist Sarah Anderson- Scottish Landscape Painter and Gill Knight Artist at our group exhibition from 27th Oct - 1st Nov (preview evening 26th Oct) at the Dundas Street Gallery. I paint imagined and remembered land and seascapes and I'm inspired by lots of random things - the sea, trees, big skies, the side of a rusty skip and odd song lyrics. I love adding a bit of texture and have a bit of an obsession with blue. I'm very lucky to work from the same studios in South Queensferry as Gill Knight Artist and am really looking forward to meeting some of you in person during the exhibition.

Hi , I’m Sarah Anderson, one of the four artists along with , and to exhibit in our exciting new exhibition ‘Converge’ at from the 26th October 🤩

My inspiration is derived from our magnificent Scottish landscape, particularly the west coast. Recurring themes in my work reflect the dramatic weather over mountains and shoreline. A recent trip to my favourite outer Hebridean island, Harris, has inspired many of my new paintings for the show. The stunning beaches there provide endless ideas.

Trees are another constant inspiration for me, being brought up in Galloway (SW Scotland) surrounded by atmospheric woodland.

The physical act of painting is important to me with colour a prominent element as I strive for simplicity of form and overall unity.

V much looking forward to meeting you all in person at , Edinburgh from the 26th October 🥂

Well, hello, time for intro number 2!

I’m Fee Dickson Reid, one of the 4 artists Gill Knight Artist asked to join her for this show - I normally paint big atmospheric seascapes in oil on canvas, but for this showI’m going back to my roots and it’s all about works on paper.. ink, charcoal, watercolour, acrylic.

Watercolour is definitely my first love, and how I first learnt to observe the world about me as an architecture student; on trips to Venice, Barcelona, Berlin.. and how I earned my living on the night markets in both New Zealand and France when I was younger.

The only award I’ve ever won has been for watercolour, the only time I’ve been asked to represent my country has been for watercolour, yet I have very rarely sketched or painted in it in the last ten years, so it has been an absolute joy these last few months to get back out with a backpack, a sketchpad or a roll of paper, and work en plain air again.

So I’ll be showing a large amount of small sketches, and a few bigger pieces that are all about me just revelling in sketching and mark making once more. The really good news? They’ll all be a good bit cheaper than the giant oil canvases I normally do too!

Really hope we can see you all, face to face for once, at the Dundas Street Gallery in October 🥂🎨

Ok I’m going to introduce myself first.
(Cringe)

Hi, I’m Gill- one of four artists to set up the joint show ‘Converge’. It’s been booked for AGES and I’m excited to now be in the final few weeks of preparing.
I’ll have around 15-20 paintings on display. These will include a range of dark and atmospheric land and seascapes with an emphasis on light breaking through in some form.
I’ve been enjoying using high textured mixed medium in my work recently - these ones usually feature a wee house or two.
As you can see the from my photos- I get most of my inspiration from the coast/lochs/hills, especially the west coast of Scotland. I love being outdoors and always absorbing ideas- photography is a bit of an obsession too.
I work mainly from my studio in South Queensferry in amongst a minefield of delicious bakeries if you ever want to visit!
Looking forward to meeting you in person at Dundas Street Gallery from the 26th October!
Any questions feel free to DM me or the group here on this account.
Thanks for reading!
